On a two week holiday to Japan, bought this and another major guide at the airport, hot off the press. Many aspects are disappointing, for example, the guide is organised by theme, and not by area. I'm staying in Shinjuku, if i want to look up accommodation, that's on page 117, but if you want a map, that's 40 pages away o p150, and somewhere to go out, try page 180, and the sights? flip back 30 pages or so... I think you get the idea. Does it have a handy index? No. A cross reference? No. The maps, which I thought were okay when I flicked through it at the airport, aren't that detailed. This Alastair Sawday book is absolutely fabulous. Mya husband and I never use anyone other than 'Sawdays'. You will never be disappointed and the accommodation you will never fault. It really is a super book and well worth a buy.

We have just returned from short trip to Disney Paris. This book was quite useful, but best read with a degree of caution. The authors seem to be lacking any real objectivity and are so gushy about the resort some parts of the book are nauseating to read. Whilst I would agree Disneyland is a great experience for children and a lot of fun for all, the authors don't point out the poor points clearly enough. e.g. the hotel accommodation (we stayed at the Vienna Dream Castle) is below par for the star ratings given, I imagine because they have a captive audience and can get away with murder. Also the food outlets are all extortionate.

This is a useful map. Two sided, one side is a streetmap of Funchal, size 40cm x 60cm, with all districts and the major roads named. It marks all the town bus routes and their terminuses. There is also a table showing details of their routes, and notes about bus services, etiquette, frequency... It would not be a substitute for a tourists plan of the very centre of Funchal, (though you can pick these up free everywhere).
The other side is a map of the island, 50cm x 80cm, scale 1:60,000, 5cm=3km, showing roads, contours, tourist information, a place-name index, plus details of the across-island bus routes, with timetable information for some routes. As an absolute beginner I found this phrasebook perfect and made me far more confident in my attempts to speak Greek.

The book's layout not only looks good but is logical and easy to use. Words are broken up phonetically making them relatively easy to pronounce.

All eventualities appear to be catered for.Even if you don't intend to use it, the section on romance will provide some laughs as you read some of the phrases that are included.

For those more adventurous there is even a section on grammar which is worth a read.

In my opinion the best Greek phrasebook on the market

Despite an unusually high number of flaws, this is nevertheless a book that will help you get the most out of your time in Andalucia.

Perhaps I just expect too much of Lonely Planet (LP), but it's their own fault. They've stood by me so many times in so many different places in the past that I was beginning to take everything they told me as The Only Advice In Town. So when I arrived in Seville I quickly got into the LP groove and hit La Bella Estrella, a "jazz bar".

Well, perhaps I'd arrived the day they buried the proprietor, but there was no jazz going on there, so off I went to Naima Café Jazz, happily only about five doors away down Calle Trajan. A bit better, but still not the place I expected based ... Read More:
