This is not a book of Cretan and Pre-Hellenic mythology. The first portion of this book is a general discussion of the palaeolithic and its cultures which, though interesting, is completely out-of-place here, and mentions too many well-known myths which have little or no relevance to the peoples this book is supposed to be about (for example, it mentions Norse and Indian beliefs). .Landscapes of Western Crete (Sunflower Landscapes) Search: Crete by: Jonnie Godfrey, Elizabeth Karslake June 28, 1991 The best thing to say about 'Landscapes of Western Crete' is that is makes an excellent work of fiction. Bearing in mind we only tried to do four of the walks (09/01) described in this book, and that Sunflower guides for other locations have resulted in excellent walking holidays (La Gomera, La Palma and Madeira), a lot of the information contained here is at best misleading and at worst completely incorrect - sometimes it is hard to imagine that the authors have actually done some of the walks. The addendum helped a bit, but Sunflower guides still refuse to post the most up-to-date info on their web site. .Crete: the Rough Guide Search: Crete by: John Fisher, Geoff Garvey, Mick Rebane 1995 The guide starts with an excellent section on the basics of travelling to Crete: How to get there from the UK, Ireland, North America, Australia & New Zealand; visa issues; tourist information; insurance & health; money; transport; accommodation; eating & drinking. The main part of the guide is divided by geography into 4 parts: Iráklion, Lasíthi, Réthymnon and Haniá. Each of the sections provides details of how to get there and around, and where to stay, shop, eat and drink. The main sights are covered in detailed multi-page descriptions. However, the provided maps are fairly poor as they are slightly too abstract and small, and only show the names of very few roads which makes it hard to find your way around.
