This book should have been fascinating unfortunately it is far from this. I was hoping for insight into the executioner as a person and their feelings towards their job. Instead it is one long list of executions plumped out by facts of the crimes. Well written, I'm sure the author would write a fascinating true crime account, but ultimately not worth the time it took to read it.

This book tells the story of Judicial and Ritual Executions from pre history to the modern day.From "Bog Bodies", the Aztecs and the Inquisition to Lethal injection.The authors have created a book which holds the readers attention without being too gory.Little know facts are revealed, for instance I was unaware that Crucifixion was even reported in Cromwellian England.There is quite a bit about the Inquisition and its exponents including the infamous Torquemada.Modern and sometimes controversial subjects are mentioned, modern death by stoning, the electric chair,Gas chambers and even "botched" executions.A book for the student of history and the casual reader. I loved this book, i couldn't put it down without wanting to read on and see what happened next.
The book is about Steve Sinclair, a doorman in Blackpool and how life was growing up, the jobs he did, the fights he got into and the different places he lived. It carries on to talk about life in Blackpool and what it was like to work on the doors of the night clubs. He has lead a very interesting life and the book it fascinating. A must read.

While reading this book you keep asking yourself `why isn`t anybody doing anything ?`
I found myself becoming more and more angry as neighbours described - AFTER this little boy`s death - how unkempt, unhappy, tired, miserable and scared he always looked.
Another case of a child who slipped through the net and was failed, not only by the system, but by people around him every day, who could have saved him.
This book broke my heart - i desperately wanted to be there for him and rescue him....
Words fail me.

Whilst each case is a unique interesting one, there are way too many facts and nowhere near enough about the interviews. It also gets less and less interesting as the book goes on but still a good read.

There is nothing compelling or amazing about this book not because of the author or his style but for the content. I struggle to find the benefit of reading about these horrific events. Don't get me wrong I am not sensitive; I enjoy watching and reading horror but I got half way through this and I've decided to burn the book. If you enjoy reading this book then there is something wrong with you. It's not fiction, these two characters deserve to rot in hell

If this book had been around 5 years ago, when I first started reading about organised crime, I could have avoided many titles that used fabricated, exaggerated and/or simply recycled information. As it is, I have read dozens of historic accounts concerning the Italian-American crime groups (Mafia, La Cosa Nostra) and Reppetto's book still informed me of facts and events I had not yet read.
Its well written without becoming too scholarly and stuffy but, at the same time, it does not sacrifice truth in aid of a better story. A real pleasure to read!
If your just starting to read about the mob then this is a God send! It will provide an invaluable all-round knowledge on the subject and leave you with an understanding what I had to read many books before attaining.
