This book cannot be regarded as unbiassed or open minded. It sets out to show that Timothy Evans was innocent. This is hardly sensible (Sherlock Holmes once observed that bad detctives set out with a theory and then twist the facts to prove it, whereas the better option is to study the facts and then form a theory which fits them. Holmes was fictional, but the maxim is sound). The author reminds us at every opportunity that Evans was innocent and that Christie was evil (not that I would disagree with the latter verdict) and the author puts down as fact the thoughts of each man that he cannot possibly have known as being certain. Nothing much in Dope Stories that I had not heard or read before. Could easily be taken as Mr Marks cashing in on his success, but really who can blame him? All in all the book is well put together and a fine read. Perhaps the author would do well to get out on the field (I suspect he's out to pasture) and live out some more dope adventures. Nothing quite beats the cannabis smoke coming out of the crazy horse's mouth.Mind Bomb

I work very close to where Peter Sutcliffe was finally arrested so was interested in finding out more. This is more or less a straight forward report into the killings. Now thinking about reading another book on the case to find out more on what happened to Sutcliffe in the last 25 years.

The stories in the book are well researched, well detailed and very well written. She knows how to keep your attention and there's not a single boring moment in it. When reading the book, it's like watching a crime programm on television thanks to the attention to detail and the way it's written. Pictures of the murderers and their victims make the book complete.
It's my first book of Ann Rule and I will definitely order more of her books.

If you like true crime, you will like this book!

Francisco Goldman has written superb books and is on my wish list for a Nobel Lit. prize. It is hardly possible to put THE ART OF POLITICAL MURDER down for a cup of tea, being a gripping, 'muscular' murder story. The focus of this mesmerizing book is on the impugnity of the the Guatemalan government and their military and secret service leaders - their devious machinations over many years to remain 'not guilty' for the assassination of Bishop Gerardi. As such, it is a good parallel to another excellent book by Philippe Sands, QC: THE TORTURE TEAM, concerning the machinations of the Bush government to remain 'not guilty' of war crimes for torture in Guantanamo.
