Once again the Futura series of True Crime books hasn't let me down, I usually read about murder, serial killings etc and I didn't think this would appeal to me but it did ! In some cases these people are just as bad as murderers, I found that thier lives were fascinating, if not in some cases tragic ! Each person has a bio but focuses mainly on one event that brought thier downfall or the scandal that is always linked with their name.
A brilliant book and I can't wait for another !

This is tightly written and compelling thriller which just happens to be true. Putting Pablo Escobar into the wider context of Columbian history helps explain not only how he can justify his activities but why he was so beloved by so many people.

The overall arc of the war (and that's no exaggeration) between Pablo and the Columbian state is gripping stuff. It's also interesting how so many common people were willing to believe his lies. However it's the incidental details that really bring things to life, the interviewees asked to recount key moments mean they are told with crystal clarity. Not all of them are vital to the narrative but they add a whole new understanding of Pablo himself, an example would be his extremely infantile ... Read More:

Ferris is well liked and respected in scotland (im originally from dumbarton so qualified to say so)This is a good read,although given the material it should be.However where it is let down is Mckays inept and contradictory writing.Read more than one of Mckays books and his stories change.2 examples. In this book blind jonah loses his eye after a drunk throws a glass in a bar and hits him in the face , however in TC Campbells book he loses the same eye in a gang fight.Example 2 the Arthur Thompson ,KRAY twin story goes from being "undoubtedly untrue" in this book , to "this definetely happened"in the Last godfather.Ferris credibility would be better served getting a more skilled co author for his next book.

Ken Keysey is a myth in his own time. The author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest, the guru of LSD culture as the more gritty and real reflection of Timothy Leary (or I should rather say Leary was Keysey's reflection).

Given this, it is only right that he should be the central subject of a book written about this culture and time, which is in essence what the Electric Kool-aid Acid Test is.

This account describes the rise and fall of LSD culture from the early 1960s. Tom Wolfe, a prominent journalist of the time documents Keyseys journey from his early involvement in official LSD experiments and his establishment of an LSD community whose primary aim was to seek enlightenment using LSD as a tool, to Keysey's ultimate rejection of LSD.
