A startling account of the depravity which evidently characterises society on Pitcairn Island and of the delusion which appears to make people (otherwise, no doubt, perfectly rational and concerned for the welfare of the vulnerable) excuse the inexcusable or deny the undeniable. It may be that some form of responsibility spreads far wider than the island itself, but there comes a time when gangs have to be broken up. There would seem to be little or no justification for preservation of this weird colony, not even for the benefit of anthropological research.

I really enjoyed this book and found it a great comfort to read that our loved ones and our pets continue living after their phsyical death and Allison gives us plenty of examples of this.

I believe most of us have psychic abilities which we chose to ignore and, reading this book, I recognised times in my own life when there has been psychic intervention.

I have only given it 4 stars because, like some of the other reviewers, I felt at times I wanted more depth and insight but I guess there are always going to be more questions than answers.

Having said that, I think this is a good read for those who are interested in mediums and it will bring comfort for the bereaved. Recommended.

This book is quite simply the best researched and best written book that I have ever read. Truely horrifying but was unable to put it down. A must read for anyone interested in Northern Ireland.

This is a good read, and disturbingly interesting, but it's also a little out dated and missing vital information, but it is well written and generally objective, neither condemming nor justifying, giving a different view than the one we all imagine on hearing that name 'Mary Bell.'

Although I agree with other reviewers that this book is quite readable, it is however not much to do with the title (ie the search for the remains of the last victim, still to be recovered, of Brady & Hindley). At least half of the book is about Hindley's formulative years & her developing relationship with Brady. This leaves about the final 45% for the crimes, trial, imprisonments etc etc & finally the search for the remains. More worrying are the factual trivia errors, which cast doubt over the accuracy of the main thrust of the work. To name just three & I'm sure there are more (if I bothered to check facts):
1. Brady & Hindley dancing to Freddie & the Dreamers records at a party in 1962 (too early a date to be possible).

I don't believe Bernard O'Mahoney is an angel, but he certainly makes a great author.

His prose is sardonic and to the point, sometimes very funny. The stuff about Dave Courtney had me howling with laughter. I also remember the TV programme Wimps to Warriors and all agreed at work the following day, that Courtney acted and dressed like something out of a comedy act.

That said, it's a pretty sad fact some impressionable youngsters take such fakes seriously and then try to emulate them with such appalling consequences.
