. A Tale of Two Cities (Wordsworth Classics)
Search: England

A few reviews here have said the majority of the book is needlessly detailled and long and drawn out. I whole heartedly disagree with them.
Yes, the first two thirds of the book are detailled and cover the events and characters thoroughly but this is essential in setting up the magnificent finale. Without the in-depth back story, the ending would lose all of its power. Granted, while reading this detail you do not realise it is so important (hence maybe the feelings of indifference towards this part of the book) but without it you would not be so invested in the characters. You would not care about what happens to them and would not understand why the events of the past impact so heavily on what is happening to them. I'm not ... Read More:

. Split (Black Lace)
Search: England
by: Kristina Lloyd
November 08, 2007
The previous book I'd read by this author, Asking for Trouble wasn't really my cup of tea. However, I'm never one to judge on just one novel, so I've very happily read and reviewed Split. It's the story of Kate Carter, who flees her hectic life and her boyfriend in London, and disappears to a remote Yorkshire village. It has an eerie feel to it, and Kate has no idea why she's been drawn to this place, but she's about to find out...
Kate has bagged herself a job at the puppet museum - working for a man called Jake. It becomes apparent on their first meeting that something is going to happen between them, it's just a matter of time. Indeed, Kate ends up in Jake's bed - and his heart. As Kate grows both physically and emotionally closer to ... Read More:

. Using the Law in Social Work

I bought this book and All You Need to Know About the City (All You Need to Know Guides) by Christopher Stoakes, and I would say the latter is better for beginners and the former moves the pace up a gear or two.
The City:A Guide to London's Global Financial Centre (Economist)covers all the key historical financial events, analyses them, and explains why the happened clearly and concise. It's well worth reading, but I would advise people to read All You Need to Know About the City (All You Need to Know Guides)first. Hope this helps.

. One Under (Di Joe Faraday)

A body chained to a railway line, and a missing person. Two seperate crimes. Probably the best 'Joe Farraday' novel yet. As usual, it is Paul Winter that excels as the best character, but this is a plot that you just couldn't guess at. Simply fantastic. Good that Farraday's son JJ is kept out of it (not a character I particularly like). And surprised that Farraday has a beard!! (Has this been mentioned before? I dont recall). It does not fit the mental image that I have of the man. As always, I urge you to read these novels in sequence, not essential, but o so much better! This IS the best so far, highly recommended.
