. Making Sense of Secondary Science: Research into Children's Ideas
Search: England
from: Routledge
March 10, 1994
I bought this book as a student teacher on the recommendation of my tutors. It is now an integral part of my lesson planning as it enables me to anticipate pupil misconceptions. The book examines childerens ideas about the natural world topic by topic, highlighting some commonly held beliefs (such as plants feeding from soil, air being a pure substance and all metals being attracted to a magnet). In using this book I have become more aware of the misconceptions that pupils (and adults!) hold in their understanding of science and can attempt to challenge these ideas before teaching the scientifically accurate idea.

. Can You Forgive Her? (English Library)
Search: England
by: Anthony Trollope
June 27, 1974
"Can you forgive her" is the best Trollope book I have ever read and although I am far from having read them all, I must have been through at least 12 of them. In "Can you forgive her?" spirited Alice Vavasor cannot reconcile herself to the idea of marrying the man she truly loves because his sedate style of life doesn't agree with Alice's idea that people who have knowledge and opportunity should make something useful of their lives. As a woman she cannot take an active part in political life and is therefore determined to be the helpmate of someone willing to take risks and to serve his fellowmen. She becomes engaged to her cousin whose political ambitions she respects but finds herself distraught at having promised herself to a man she cannot ... Read More:

. The Last Chronicle of Barset (Penguin Classics)
Search: England
by: Anthony Trollope
August 29, 2002
The sixth and last novel in the chronicles of Barsetshire is to my mind perhaps one of the best in the entire series, and one of the very best Victorian novels I've ever read. The main storyline centers on the impoverished curate Josiah Crawley: when he uses a cheque to pay a butcher's bill and that cheque is found to have been recently stolen from Lord Lufton, Crawley is unable to explain how it came in his possession. Crawley is sentenced to appear before the next assizes, and soon the whole of Barsetshire is divided between those who think him guilty (amongst others the immortal Mrs. Proudie), and those who believe him to be innocent.
Mixed with this are two love-stories. First of all there's the romance between Major Grantly (2nd son of ... Read More:

. Boston and New England (AA Spiral Guide)
Search: England
by: John Rosenthal, Kathy Arnold, Paul Wade
August 31, 2000
My husband and I now have a collection of AA sprial guide books (Boston & New England, New York, Washington, California, Florida). All of them are extremely well written. They are easy to read with great pictures and itineraries to fit in all the "must see" attractions to your holiday. It is portable enough to go everywhere with you, and is crammed with useful information, where to eat, shop, stay, how to get around, cost of attractions - the list is endless! The map included is extremely useful too!
In short I would recommend this and the other AA spiral guide books to EVERYONE. We would not go on a holiday without one now, as without them, we would have missed many brilliant bits of our holiday!
