This book has a very concise layout and covers all the information around the Reformation. Under each section (dissolution etc.) all the areas that affected it or were affected seem to be covered. A useful read for a good overview and helpful information, especially to help with essays. The opinions of modern historians save a bit of reading other long books!

london is a city that i really want to visit someday because it is an interesting city and also because i never been to the united kingdom and the big ben is one of the landmarks i really want to see and also the double decker buses. but not just the big ben, i also would like to see the buckingham palace and soho too. a very interesting book.

Compact, informative gem of a book covering all the main tourist attractions Manchester has to offer along with restaurants and bars with short reviews. Useful things it includes is web addresses, opening times and costs of activities and attractions. Includes maps of areas which makes it easier to plan days out. I have lived in Manchester for 5 years and it still has many gems in this book that I still need to discover. A book that I now refer to as 'my Manchester bible'

I own one of the pubs listed, the George and Devonshire, in Chiswick. It is the oldest pub in Chiswick, built some time prior to 1657, and we still trade in the original building. However, Bob Steel commits the cardinal error of not checking his facts by casually stating the the pub is s '20th century re-build', which would appear to be obvious nonsense to anyone who has actually visited the place! If Bob Steel did not visit the George and Devonshire, which is Casque Mark accredited for the quality of our real ale, how many other pubs included in the book were also not visited?

I haven't ever reviewed anything on Amazon before but felt compelled to seeing that this astonishing book has not yet had one. The Peregrine, written by the reclusive librarian and naturalist J.A.Baker is a unique work, and certainly the best modern prose nature writing I have encountered. It should take its place beside Manley Hopkins notebooks and poems and the poetry of Les Murray and Ted Hughes. It is the last of these is that it most resembles with its intense distillations of natural violence, of planetary process seen in the local and nature seen without romantic overlay, functioning beyond human consciousness. Henry Mayhew, founder of Punch magazine, wrote this four-volume sociological classic during the 1850's. If you are at all interested in the Victorian era, in British history, in London, or in urban history in general, this is a must-read. This version is abridged and is a distillation of the "best" of the multiple-volume set. This distillation is itself over 500 pages, so imagine the impact of the entire set! The utter destitution of the London poor is set out in such vivid detail than one cannot help being shocked at the conditions human beings were forced to live in in the greatest city of its time. The only fault I find with this book is Mayhew's occasional lapses into preaching. Otherwise a fine book.
