. Breath of Corruption (Caper Court (No 7)) (Caper Court (No 7)) (Caper Court (No 7))

by: Caro Fraser
October 01, 2007
Once I'd read 'The Pupil', I was hooked and I've read and re-read the whole series. Captivated by the characters, drawn into the enclosed community of Caper Court, I snapped this book up and polished it off in a couple of hours.
But I cheated. I quickly decided that I had little interest in the Ukranian Money Laundering sub-plot. Disappointingly, it posed few ethical dilemmas for Leo Davies. So I skipped those bits. Rachel was drearily single, Leo's new girl-friend was tiresome, and like, I dunno, whether I can bear to follow, like, a seventeen year old school-girl's sloaney, like, drivel, right? (Gawd, I hate it when authors slow me down by doing that to young people's speech.) So I skipped those bits too.
I was ... Read More:

. My Manchester United Years: The Autobiography
Search: England
by: Bobby Charlton
May 29, 2008
Bobby Charlton is a survivor and one of the few people who genuinely deserve the accolade of "sporting legend.". At times the first part of his autobiography rather rambles but it is nice to have his own account of his life.
The Charlton story has been chronicled many times. Here Bobby shows just why he is one of this country's greatest footballing ambassadors. The centre point of the book is the Munich air crash disaster that saw the Busby Babes decimated with the loss of many players including the incomparable Duncan Edwards who has been held up by many to be the greatest ever English footballer. Lives were cut short and Charlton was left to wonder just why he had been saved and got out of the crash with just a few cuts and bruises.

. Hard Times (Penguin Classics)
Search: England
by: Charles Dickens
January 28, 2007
I had to read this for GCSE in 1994 and it was a struggle from start to finish. It truly was 'hard times' reading this book, but something in it did appeal to me, because it didn't turn me off of Dickens. I have read further novels by him since - and not always because I have been forced to! There was a good TV series made of this book (the teacher made us watch it), with Bob Peck in it - that white hunter-type character from the first Jurassic Park film, who has since died, apparently.

. Anita and Me
Search: England
by: Meera Syal
April 07, 1997
Anita and Me is a brilliant debut novel by Meera Syal. The novel journeys during the days of 1960's Britain set in small town in the midlands. The story is narrated by Meena a born and bred second generation Asian who experienced life of what life is like living in a Punjabi family household and within the English community.
The narrative approach is superb and filled with interesting details about the Indian way of life and how it conflicts with Western values. The author being herself a second generation, has really added her own experience and knowledge to deliver a superb piece of storytelling. The main focal point is about divided loyalty. In the context of the novel, Meena wants indulge in habits such as eating fish and chips and wants a boyfriend, which ... Read More:
