I know it's my personal bug-bear, but as with most guidebooks on Spain the Murcia region isn't given the same treatment as other regions - just 10 pages (that wrongly suggest that all we've got there is beaches and golf courses) to cover the whole region while Valencia gets 50! That said, I like the Lonely Planet guides, they are beautifully produced and the colour photos are always outstanding.

Dont go to venice without this book , it has everything you need . We brought this along with the Lonely Planet Map and they were both excellent. Venice can be really busy but this book has many suggestions of where to spend your time. A perfect guide to a beautiful city.

Camping is a somewhat re-visited activity and, over the years, I'm used to 'AA' books, which are, generally, reliable and offer a list of places to troll through, so I grabbed the book off the shelf without really looking at it! Fool that I am.


Now, this is a book, right?... and you are meant to be able to read it easily, right?... OK, yes I wear 'readers' but the print is still somewhat small and the font could have been better, but my gripe is with the symbols for what each site offers...they are truly small and difficult to distinguish, especially in low light. The symbols are the key and worth a thousand words, so should be crystal! AND...what about dogs?...OK it has a symbol for 'dog exercise area', so one assumes dogs are welcome ... Read More:

Of course JD was able to work as a reporter in Russia without speaking any Russian...Re-Odd choice of presenter/writer. British reporters in Russia just follow the BBC/Times party line...so why would they have to speak any of the local language? The present Guardian correspondent speaks Russian like a small dim-witted child (from London). What chance does he have of digging up any good stories?

RE - Erroneous and misapprehending - Khordorkovsky is the hero of the BBC/liberal western media...do you seriously expect them to investigate allegations that he was responsible for murder? (Mayor of Nefteyugansk anyone?)

This book is so well written and witty, describing an idylic life in Spain that I am sure many will be tempted to follow in Chris's and my own footsteps. I have been through the same story as this family, having lived in Spain for the past sixteen years, longer than Chris. I speak fluent Castellano, the same as him. My warning about his book is unless you can speak Spanish perfectly, you will never enjoy half the experiences described. If you are willing to learn the language, then "Driving Over Lemmons" is so good and an inspiration. If you are inspired and are up for it then Spain is still a good choice. My advice is read the book, learn to speak Spanish, enjoy and do the same. Wonderful read and a wonderful country. I am writting this review on the PC powered ... Read More:

I've always queried the concept of the Rough Guide series of books. I know there was the TV show in the 80's I think it was, where people like Magenta de Vine pretended to be down with the kids and talk about Eastern Europe on a shoestring budget, all the while looking like her Gucci slacks had never seen a hostel let alone be strewn across its floor. My question about the books was then, should I draw any link between the two brand names spanning different media?

It sort of appears that I should, because the Rough Guide isn't, as one inference might suggest, a loose approximation of information, or an author's best guess at something (i.e. Cornwall is roughly west of London and quite nice). I've just bought this map (June 2008) for a trip next month and was pleased to see it's been brought up to date (it's copyright 2007). The motorway extends up to just short of Alcudia.

We had no probs with it, but didn't tour extensively to be fair. The only problem I had was with it's sheer size. It's certainly not cut out for a front seat passenger to peruse as you drive along! The islands split in to half, one half one side, one the other, and when opened out to it's extreme, it pretty much covered our Focus's windscreen! It would have been preferable to have had the whole island on one side, and some more detailed town maps, and a basic island map, on the other, however, the main thing, is it's up to date
