I must say I was disappointed with this book. I thought it was going to be better. There isn't actually that many 'recipes' and what there is isn't too exciting anyway. My daughter likes one or two of them, but unfortunately it's just not a great book.

An engrossing book.
This book gives an excellent insight into the work and philosophy of a first rate chef. Most of the recipes are quite sophisticated, and the book is probably not one for a novice or nervous cook. The photographs are beautiful, and give splendid ideas for presentation. As a vegetarian, I was particularly interested in the puddings, which use pectin as a setting agent, rather than gelatine. Interesting and useful too are the 'mini recipes' - the bits between the main productions with instructions and techniques on making and using such things as powders, oils and stocks.

...buy this one. There are no pretty pictures, but it offers a no-frills approach to mixing cocktails. Ingredients, method, glass, garnish and alcohol units are given for each recipe. The glossary of spirits is very good and the index is the best of any cocktail book I've come across. There are other books that offer more exotic fare, but this book covers all the basics and then some.

Loved the accompanying TV series but very disappointed with this book.

I'm not anti-Jamie by any stretch and still regularly borrow from earlier volumes but having had this book since it came out a couple of years ago I've not used a single recipe. If you live somewhere with a decent deli and can obtain the necessary ingredients then maybe this is for you but for someone like me, living in a chav town with nothing but large supermarkets, there's little on offer which could easily be replicated.

Yes, it's pleasant visually, but I buy recipe books in order to cook from them and in that respect this book was money wasted. At he's produced better since with the excellent Jamie At Home.

I was hugely disappointed with this book - particularly with the photography of the finished dishes - it's redolent of the quality you'd find in a 1970's cookbook - the food looks totally unappetising.

I love cookery books and looked forward to this arriving but can honestly say I'll be lucky to use 2-3 recipes if that. Uninspiring with an over reliance on a few ingredients.

Sorry, but wouldn't recommend this to anyone who really enjoys cooking.

After years of struggling for hours, stirring and stewing leaden dishes with heavy spices, it has been the most enormous relief to find this wonderful book. We ate at Benares and I bought the book as soon as I knew it existed. Since then I have cooked most of the recipes in it. They are short, clear and uncomplicated. I usually have most of the ingredients in the house or in the immediate vicinity of where I live, which makes the recipes ideal. I have fed happy vegetarians and vegans as well as the usual carnivores. I particularly like the ease with which you can produce five or six different dishes so that people can help themselves to an array of flavours, and all without it being hard labour. This book is proof that good things come in small packages - it was lying unused on a shelf for a long time before I picked it up and decided to make something from it and since then the book has become grubby and stained due to the number of times I've used it. Someone else has already pointed out it is great value for money and I definitely agree on this.

A perfect book for when you need something quick to make after a long day at work! It's full of easy, uncomplicated recipes.
