J Browne makes a good point about this book's scientific arguments. There is no robust data supporting the role of blood tests of neurotransmitter amines in the diagnosis of depression.

Jane Plant's scientific reputation in earth sciences is assured, but now she has waded into the different specialist area of psychopharmacology the results are much less convincing. Her pharmacology and critical appraisal skills are, I feel, somewhat exposed in this volume.

I have all of Ina's cook books and find them invaluable. Her recipes are easy to follow, delicious and they all have that little bit more when it comes to flavour and impact. Her chicken pot pie is wonderful as is her summer friut crostata. This is easy food with the volume turned up. A great book to have in any kitchen.

The ever increasing size of this book reflects the increasing interest in wine, so it now lands with an impressive thump on your desktop. Though its content doesn't always reflect who that new market is.

The authors start with a, rather meandering, description of the history and production of wine and some basic notes on tasting, appreciation and handling of wine. Some of this is very useful, most of it is very basic for someone who already knows the subject and all of it could do with some editing to make the best of their material. Wow! What an amazing book! I had my first Wagamana experience on Saturday when I was in Birmigham as we don't have any in Cornwall. The restaurant has been on my "places I must eat in" list and after such wonderful food and service, I just had to buy the cookbook!

Well, it arrived yesterday and I made the Spicy Beef Noodles for Dinner and then made a noodle salad for my packed lunch for work! Roll on lunch time!

It is an amazing book with lots of information and pictures. The recipes are easy to follow and the food that you create is authentic! Some ingredients you do have to look for, but it is worth it! Especaially if you are a foodie and appreciate cooking!

Don't be put off by the sheer size of this cookbook--almost 400 pages. And if you're looking for the "quick-and-easy" method, this might not be for you. If you want quick, try "Delia's How to Cheat" book which I use quite often. However, when I want to make something for friends or really have a good meal, I turn to THE KITCHEN DIARIES. You won't find a better compilation of recipes and they're not all with ingredients that you can't find either.

But the most amazing thing about this book is the "seasonal" aspect it has--the fact that certain foods should be enjoyed at certain times. I've thoroughly enjoyed leafing through this colourful and inspirational book. I never realised veg growing could be so much fun or that they could look so good. I've tried several of the ideas in my garden this year and have been pretty successful. In fact, considering I've only been gardening for a couple of years and I only have a tiny courtyard, I'm really very pleased. The 'tumbling toms' and 'potted potager' worked particularly well.

I heartily recommend this book to anyone who enjoys growing their own food, especially if they are short of space. You won't ever become self sufficient growing your veg in pots but every bit of homegrown produce is a bonus. I bought this, and 2 other carb counting books, because I have 2 children who are Type 1 diabetic and we need to carb count for the basal bolus insulin regime they are using. I found it so useful I bought another 3, 1 each for the kids and 1 to be kept in the kitchen. The other books got left on the shelf, this one is far and away the easiest to use (& to carry around) and the best thing it's all UK foods, products and measurments. Since my children are teenagers the fact that it includes fast foods from the likes of McDonalds is really helpful too, they are much more inclined to use this than the others. All in all we have been really pleased with this book and would recommend it to anyone needing to keep an eye on their carb intake.
