Having just renewed my interest in slow cookers I bought this book based on amazon reviews. Some of the receipes are interesting but you will spend time having to research what some of the ingredients are. This is fine but I thought the whole point of owning a slow cooker was to save time! This book was written for the amercian market and probably makes a lot more sense there.

Sherry Argov freely admits that she uses the word "bitch" as a tongue-in-cheek way to grab your attention. She describes a bitch as a woman who is confident, independent and self-reliant, traits that men find sexy, attractive and intriguing. Argov portrays "good girls" as available, overly nice, accommodating and needy - characteristics men find off-putting and boring. Had this book been written 20 years ago, it would have been cutting edge, but you've probably heard the core of Argov's advice before (much of it is reminiscent of asking why a man would want a cow if he could get milk for free), from your mother and grandmother. This book is really easy to read, clear and informative. The juicing plan is outlined well and I feel, much better than his previous book 7lbs in 7 days (although I still loved that one!). This plan is more easy to follow and fit into family life. The basic principles are the same; juice/smoothie for breakfast and lunch, and soup for dinner. This then extends after 7 days to a more flexible plan juice/smoothie for breakfast and lunch for 5 days a week then just replace the soup to a healthy meal.

I was really looking forward to reading this book for inspiration to pursue a healthier lifestyle. The book's "inspiration" amounted to a lot of swearing- obviously covering up the authors' lack of appropriate vocabulary. It comes across as crass and ill-informed.

Also, many of their "scientific claims" are completely false, and they cite inadequate sources for these outrageous claims. If the reader has a basic education in biology, he/she will recognize the false claims and the poor attempts to cover them up using expletives.

A total waste of time.

Nigella Lawson goes out of her way to convince the reader that it is oh-so-easy to bake mouthwatering cakes and achieve a wonderful sense of satisfaction as a homey domestic goddess...unfortunately, after trying 70% of the recipes in her book and following them exactly, the only thing I feel like is a frustrated domestic failure. I don't know why everyone else raves about this book so much, but I suspect it might be just because it looks good on the shelf, and there's no doubt about it, the photos really do look wonderful. But I'm not convinced that all the positive reviewers have tried many of the recipes, and if they have I would love someone to let me know how I could modify them so that I too can feel like a domestic goddess?

I used this book to diet 4 years ago. I enjoyed the food but not the results. Yes, I lost weight but it appears to have left me with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I had no such problems before spending 4 months on this diet. Just be aware, it may not agree with everyone

Great book, loads of delicious recipes, and explains how ice cream works. Also has a good (if belt-busting) section of cakes and biscuits (presumably so that you can bash them into bits afterwards and add them to your ice cream). The beginning of this short book is a history of Ben and Jerry's which was interesting but a bit twee.

My only complaint is that all quantities are given in the rather vague US 'cups' rather than millilitres or grams (or even pounds and ounces). So you're told to put a quarter cup of this, with a half cup of that.

Don't suppose a bit more or a bit less of anything will hurt your ice cream, but slightly annoying to have to convert quantities every time.

I love going to Yo! Sushi when on site with work, trouble is at home the nearest restaurant is over an hour away. This book allows me to recreate the delicious food. It has to be said my efforts are not up to the standard of the chef's but if you get fresh ingredients they taste, if not look, great.

As for the book - not only is it informative and easy to read, it is also a work of art in itself, the photography and general layout and appearance make it an ideal coffee table book for the occasional read. Trouble is every time I do that I end up hungry!

Great book, great food, now where is my rice cooker I'm hungry
