Once again, Rachel has written a book with recipes that you will actually be able to use in everyday life, not just when you've got the time to do some specialist shopping and spend hours in the kitchen. The book is called "favourite food at home" and that's just what you get, if you're looking for something more fiddly or to impress your guests with your brilliant cooking techniques, you should look somewhere else (Gary Rhodes is my tip here). But if all you want is good family meals, this book really gives you a wide variety of choice and you won't be dissapointed. i tried the mincepies which were a great new taste with the marzipan in, I also copied the christmas cake with the stockings around - again a grea idea. Also did the shortbread recipe but decorated them in my own way but also lovely. Oh and I did the Christmas pudding recipe with the grated butter!! yes quite tricky but well worth it best pudding I've ever had and even when I made it.

You know the drill, you see a cookbook in the shop, pick it up and browse through, see about 3 or 4 recipes that grab you and head for the checkout... Then, when you get home and cook a couple you find the rest of the book overly complicated and ultimately it gets tucked away with the rest of the Gordon's, Nigella's etc etc to gather dust. Not so with the latest offering from Mr Oliver... I've bought most of Jamie's books and I've tried a fair few of his recipes over the years, but this book contains the best selection yet in my opinion. I actually bought this particular one for my husband as he'd promised 2008 would be the year he finally learnt to cook more than beans on toast! My husband bought me this book for Christmas and I haven't looked back. The recipes are great and exclude the sugar and skimmed milk powder nonsense that came with the recipe book for my machine. Every loaf has come out perfectly (I have a Panasonic SD253) - I have even braved the free-form ones using the dough programme and had great results (The Italian loaf is to die for). On the rare occasions we buy bread now, we notice just how sweet it is, and just how many alarming ingredients there are listed on the packaging! I can't recommend it highly enough.

I am a current sport therapy student at university. This is the book that we were recommended by top physiotherapist. This book is easy to read and easy to understand, it will teach you everything you will need to know and has clear and easy to flow photos of how to treat different injuries that your client might have. It is well worth the money

I really didn't like the style this book was written in. It's evangelical, repetitive and irritatingly patronising. I also hated everything being described as juicy all the time - I know it's a juice book but it got on my nerves after the tenth page. The author markets his other products in the book - the marketing is excellent and you have a huge range of products and media to choose from if you feel you need it. Personally the book was enough for me.

As for the diet it's expensive as you need a lot of fruit, supplements, a blender and a juicer but if you are planning to make a lifestyle change then it's an investment. Utterly beautiful book, filled with stunning photos and mouth watering recipes. Gives recommendations for varieties of each fruit/vegetable, particularly interesting if you grow your own. Arranged by month, and then into each fruit/vegetable.

Although I am no longer a student, I heartily recommend it to would-be cooks of all ages. I have a toddler and we have enjoyed making several of the recipes together, especially the cinnamon jam buns. The idea of cooking on a budget should appeal to families and students alike. A great book.

I bought this wonderful book some time ago as a friend recommended it.
It is a fabulous gem of a book and if you follow the recipes to the letter you will never be disappointed. I found the dishes to be very close to that of Indian restaurants. One tip I would pass on is to buy the garum masala mix from a proper indian food shop as the type sold in Tesco and the like are definitely not the same and ruin the taste of the curry.

I have since told all of my family and they have all bought the book and all think it a revelation.

Can't wait for 'The New Curry Secret' book to come out in Feb 2009!

No other book that I have ever read has had such an affect on my life. I have tried every single diet there is going to try to loose weight and have had absolutely no success. I was about to give up and accept that I would be over-weight forever, when I heard about Marisa's book. I read it in one-sitting and have never looked back. I have now lost four stone and have never felt so happy and energetic. Marisa's programme has transformed my relationship with food, this really works and I would recommend everybody to read it.
