I decided to try out this book after gaining 2 and a half stones over several years.Having never dieted before, I wasn't sure how to go about it, but didn't want to crash diet or begin a faddy,unhealthy diet.
I ordered this book in January and it has been invaluable. It sets out the principles of the GI hip and thigh diet - low fat, low calories, high GI eating, and is very easy to follow. It explains the pitfalls of crash dieting and also explains the importance of exercise in losing weight.While not following the recipes in the book, the principles behind the eating plan seem sound and are not difficult to follow - with a bit of willpower.

I bought this book on a whim and have just completed my fifth cake and am in the process of devising my sixth cake - the pictures and instructions are brilliant, I had never iced a cake before and now feel competent enough to make them for people other than family! Would highly recommend this, and looking at other peoples reviews am going to buy book 2! Well worth it.

Its a reliable indication a cookbooks value and usefulness if its encrusted with splashes and looks as if it has been marinated in soy sauce. My copy of China Modern is rapidly approaching health hazard status. Its up there with my (rather older) Ken Hom's Chinese Cookery and that's praise indeed. If you only bought one chinese cookery book this would be a good one to pick. Indeed the kung pao chicken recipe alone more than repays the cost. My partner now claims this as his signature dish and is only too happy to rush to the kitchen to prepare it. Ching-he's food stands out because it tends to be punchier and more flavoursome than many a standard chinese recipe. Her recipes are accessible and designed to fit in with a modern busy lifestyle ... All too often we buy yet another gadget to add to our kitchen and then find that it disappears out of sight. This is one that I use contantly. Stew type dishes come to mind straight away because the food ends up being so tender and the taste is great because the cooking is contained in the pot. You can therefore, use the cheaper cuts of meat with great success
It is absolutely great for when you have guests. I prepare food in the slow cooker before they come and then I can then spend time enjoying the visit. I love this book, infact I love juicing. Jason is a great inspiration and juicing certainly helped me to a healthier and trimmer body. I have tried most of the recipes and all of them taste wonderful. The vegetable ones are a great way to use up the excess stock from my allotment.
I didn't even buy this book - it came free with my juicer, now that's a bargain.

Be warned that if you are vegetarian, Dr Atkins says his diet would be too boring because you would have insufficient choice of protein foods. But if you're not, it's brilliant, and it really does reduce weight FAST with no hunger after the first few days. And despite what the scaremongers say, it *does* include green veg, and after the first fortnight it includes a wide range of veg and some fruit and is perfectly well balanced. Others have come along afterwards and you may find them presented in a way you like better: e.g. Nerys and India's Idiot Proof Diet is great and has a supportive forum pig2twig, which helps a lot. LOVE this cookbook!! Her meals are delicious! Sometimes they are complex, but after a few tries, you can learn how to be a true low-carb gourmet (as the title clearly states).

I love cooking and I have to say that this is one of my favourites. It has every recipe you can imagine and it explains very good what you are doing. You learn a lot about cooking... I think it is a must have book for your collection.

I've only recently started having a go at making my own bread - and by that I mean a couple of weeks ago! However, I decided to invest in a couple of books so I would be able to make something different as well as basic plain everyday bread. And man am I glad I did it!
The book arrived less than a week ago and I've done nothing ever since other than make bread!
All the recipes are very clear, easy to understand and the sheer variety of them left me gobsmacked.
If you're thinking about getting this book, just do it! You won't regret it! I'm certainly glad I bought it.

Real cidermaking is an excellent book for a newcomer to cider making. I bought it last year and followed what it said, and this year we are drinking lovely dry sparkling cider from our two apple trees. It was our first time ever trying to make cider, and the results are truly fantastic.

It is very much geared to the home cider maker who has tree with a lot of apples and wants to use them.

It usefully tells you why you should do something - eg sterilising properly - and what happens when you don't. This type of approach ensures that you don't cut corners because you know the consequences of doing so.
