.Walking in the Canary Islands: Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Graciosa: East v. 2 (Cicerone International Walking) Search: Fuerteventura by: Paddy Dillon March 01, 2003 This guidebook is useful, but has its limitations. It needs reading with a map open beside you. The sketch maps aren't great. As it is covering a large area there are inevitable selection biases. The routes are accurately described. What I don't get from this book is the feel of the place, or the flavour of the walks. There is a load of good walking on the Canary Islands, and with the heat you'll find the walks as much of a challenge as any English or Scottish peak. There's a different set of problems walking in hot dry territories and it's fun to be more worried about sun and water rather than wind and rain. Most people go to Fuerta for the Beaches, however, and it is a bit hot to do a whole lot of hiking.
