My husband bought this book as we were travelling to Orlando with friends. We had been to Orlando previously, but it was over 7 years ago.

This book it packed with really useful tips and hints. We planned all our activities based on the quietest days to travel - and we had a great time, the longest ride we waited for was 20 minutes. However it was September and this is usually one of the quiestest times to travel.

Every day the book would be with us, I have since passed onto my friends to use, definately worth the money. It even has discount cards in the back, which we used at one of the Retail Outlets - 15% off Adidas, as well as lots of other stores.

I picked this book up when I saw it lying on a friend's coffee table and became absorbed from the first chapter, so much so I was barely able to put it down until it was finished. It is written in a humorous, fluent and self-deprecating style that provides a fascinating insight into life as an ex-pat in a remote foreign farming community. The book's worth is increased for me by it coming across as a very honest account of events naturally brought to life by the characters and their situation. Each chapter is a self-contained episode which keeps the whole thing fresh. This is a good, useful map. Two sided, each 55cm x 65cm, scale 1:40,000, 2.5cm =1km, which is about 1.5inches = 1 mile. Not quite as good as a British Ordnance Survey map, but better and cheaper (from Amazon) than any maps I saw in Madeira. All the main roads, tourist info, contours, (with good background colouring to indicate height,essential in such a mountainous region), footpath details, with references to walk numbers in guide-books, levadas, a place-name index... There is also a small street-map of the centre of Funchal, but it's really too small to be of use. Collect a free advertising tourist map from your hotel for the centre of Funchal. David Brawn's Madeira Bus & Touring map is also useful if you plan on using local buses.

We purchased this book after reading other reviews and were very disappointed. Much of the information was factually incorrect, we disagreed with hotel and restaurant recommendations and often found them to be closed down or some of the worst places we stayed or ate if we did use them. In many cases we wondered if the guide writers had even been to the places and throughout south america these books could be found in any secondhand shop that sold english books!

Also, prices are quoted in USD not local currency which makes it virtually impossible to use them as a reference. Overall very disappointing!

These cards are really useful for learning anatomy because they enable you to test yourself as well as allowing someone with no knowledge of antomy to test you. I would recomend them to any medical student as they are a the best thing for revising for anatomy vivas and exams.

This is a gorgeous book. It sweeps you up and takes you away first to London then to the Middle East of the late 18th and early 19th century. It's the story of an extraordinary woman, Lady Hester Stanhope, a feminist before her time. Kirsten Ellis really gets under her skin and gives you a real feeling of what she was like and what drove her. Ellis is also clearly very familiar with the Middle East, then and now. Star of the Morning reads like a novel but it's all true. The sort of book you can't stop reading yet really don't want to get the end of.

We have done several walks in the book and have enjoyed them all. The instructions are clear (and updates are posted on the website), and all the information you need is in there. There are great tips on where to have lunch and this often turns into the real highlight of any walk (that long awaited glass of cider on a hot summer's day in the garden of a country pub) ...

If you like walking and exploring the glorious English countryside, this is the book you need to inspire you and take you away from the London smog!

This is by far the most intriguing book I have ever read. It contains all the neccesary ingredients for a great work of fiction, but the fact that this is a true story makes it even more fantastic.

The new July 2008 edition recently arrived. I think it's a great advance over previous editions, although I agree with Lara that Syria warrants its own Lonely Planet guide. Many text-boxes and references to more specialist sources of information have been added. Everything has been updated and substandard accommodation deleted. It's very compact, light and easy-to-use - except for the street maps. These seem more difficult to read than ever! Extra plans showing the layout of ruins and of some museums are great. However, the prices given for flights and accommodation are already well out-of-date. Judging by the introductory sections, the guide was completed in about February 2008. Well - i ordered this book from A1BOOKS-UK. This was ordered on the 15.11.04. & i still have not recieved it. I would like to say that it is a great book but have not received it yet !!!!!

Buy the time i get the book i may even have finished the bloody camper van by then ! I have contacted A1 Books 4 times and all i receive is a automated email saying visit the website. There is no contact telephone number for them. So i then dicided to email Anazon - there is no point doing this as they don't reply aswell. This is the first purchase i have tryed to make on this website - its also the last. I'm off to waterstones now......................................................................Crap !!!!!!
