We are lucky enough to live in Alsace, and we frequently have visitors. We find the green guide indispensable in terms of choosing new places to take them to.
Ok, it's in alphabetical order - why is that a problem? The very fact means that, whilst flcking through it one frequently makes serendipitous discoveries.
We love to explore our adopted homeland and find this guide an absolute mine of interesting information.

I used this guide on holiday in 2002. On the plus-side it did lead me to explore towns and villages that I would probably otherwise have omitted from my schedule, which would have been my loss. The information provided is detailed, and useful if you want local history. On the down-side all the information on the towns and villages is referenced alphabetically, rather than by area. So, if you want to find out about the villages around Narbonne, for example, you will need to consult a map and look up each village separately, which is obviously time consuming and not something you feel like after a nice afternoon in a village cafe!

Among a veritable forest of travel books The Green Guide stands apart.
It contains the usual combination of historical, cultural and economic backgroud, sights, accommodation and places to eat, but it has a lot more to commend it. The maps at the front, detailing the interesting to the unmissable are really helpful for those of us who love to "do it ourselves". The book is thoughtfully laid out, with the written word interspersed with attractive illustrations and useful maps. Here and there appear interesting titbits of information in yellow boxes. I soon found myself seeking them out as little gems of infinite variety and fascination.
Colour coding the pages containing addresses makes them easy to find and it is good to see ... Read More:

Ok, not entirely suited to the Normandy Beaches tourist but still a useful book I found. The bits that concerned the WW2 sites were informative and maps easy to find/follow. This coupled with a road map and some history books really made the "Discover the history of the Landings" trip for me. Small enough to carry on my motorbike tank bag and also interesting enough to read @ night it was a good last minute buy. An added bonus was the fact that the Channel Islands are featured in this guide too, somewhere else I am planning to see for the WW2 aspect soon.
