I diverted from my usual practice of buying Rough Guides with this book on the basis of Amazon customer reviews, and now wished I hadn't.

The content is certainly acceptable and we visted some decent restaurants recommended in the book, but it is the usability that suffers over the Rough Guide. Whereas places in that book are arranged by region, this is arranged alphabetically, making it virtually impossible when out on a day trip, to find other places of interest near to where you are. For that reason alone, I couldn't recommend buying it, and will certainly be sticking to Rough Guides in the future.

Not to mention that had I bought the RG, which also covers Britanny, I would not be having to buy another book for my holiday ... Read More:

As a seasoned visitor to Sicily if I had read this book first I would have not gone or would have been lost. Unless you are visiting the Island for a 3 month visit you would never go to see these 80% of the places mentioned in the book. Even the local sicilians do not go to see some of those that are right on there doorstep. I was looking for a book that would get me off the normal beaten track but if there descriptions of the highlights of sicily are anything to go by I will not be using this book. Dull, Boring and a waste of money.

When I saw this book I thought brilliant that is just the thing I need! It does cover a massive amount of countries and has a small description of what to expect when you get there. But it is lacking in many ways too, If they had settled on not covering quite so many countries (like most of the African languages and including a section on the Vatican city!) it could have concentrated on more useful information that is needed. It is all very well saying "I am vegetarian and don't eat meat of fish". Some places in the world still don't understand what you mean. You need to know the words for different types of veg and also meats so you can avoid them if talking to a waiter or looking at a menu. for example Ham or Sea food which in my experience is often ...
