I do not believe that you can learn a language from any one source but this book is a definite "must have". My copy was lent to me by a friend and i have worn it out. I am now buying another copy and this time I will have the CD with it. It explains grammar very well and the exercises give you good practise, as well as good progression.

Absolutely fantastic. My 7 year old daughter loved this in the car in preparation for our holiday in Italy and still loves it since then. Locals were very impressed with her ability to order pizza, name colours etc. It's American in origin and uses bilingual American children. The CD is just so good it's worth the money on its own though the workbook wasn't used so much. Considering buying the other languages too.

Absolutely fantastic. My 7 year old daughter loved this in the car in preparation for our holiday in Italy and still loves it since then. Locals were very impressed with her ability to order pizza, name colours etc. It's American in origin and uses bilingual American children. These tapes contain about 40 "lessons", which aren't lessons at all but just lists of words and phrases where you have the opportunity to listen to the Italian phrases and repeat them. There's no association with a situation to help you remember, and no explanation of any of the vocabulary or grammar you are "using".

It may be quite effective for remembering lists of words, but not in any way that you'll find easy to use in a conversation. I'd advise you to steer clear of this, except maybe as an extra tool to help you revise your existing Italian vocabulary.

If you want to begin Italian, this is completely unsuitable ... go for Michel Thomas or Pimsleur instead, both of which are excellent.
