This notebook is great for:
- on-the-spot travel writing
- collecting mementos: it has a pocket in the back for ticket stubs, etc.
- remembering where you went: it has a map of the entire of Rome with tracing paper to put on top so you can remember the exact route you took
- writing EVERYTHING down: it literally has space for everything!
I bought this when I was in Rome with a school trip, and I don't regret buying it at all!

I walked the Alta Via 1 this summer in late August/early September. Martin Collins' book is an essential item if you intend to do this fantastic high-altitude trek. The profiles are fairly accurate, and the routes are very well described. The only criticism I had with the book is that some of the timings are ambitious to say the least (I am a very fit, a rower at university) and I have severe problems at keeping up with some of the timings, yet some of the timings I could easily beat. Apart from that, the advice is completely sound (except the bus to Lago di Braines does not leave from Villabassa train station). I found this book quite funny at the beginning. As a foreigner living in Italy for these last 12 years I laughed out loud reading those everyday life incidents and lets call them diplomatic misunderstandings that different cultures bring with them.
I could just simply relive the bizarre situations that the authors describes and in a way feeling a bit relieved I wasn't the only one having problems.
Somewhere in between the book became a bit boring and I had to plod my way through the pages. The author seems to love a lot Italian cuisine because she's always describing what she's eating in the various restaurants she's been at, in different places in Italy, especially Tuscany.

This is a sequel to In the shadow of Lady Jane. In this book Richard truly comes of age. He ends up maturing, getting married and finally deciding on his career. All this takes place through a journey across Europe to Venice and all that befalls him there. I have read many books on Venice, one of my passions, see below, and it is rare that I learn anything new but in this novel I did. It was absolutely fascinating, from the art of painting to the treatment of the Daughters of the Doge, I was not disappointed and thoroughly engrossed.

I can say that as Richard matures, so does his character and I really thought this was a real skill of Edward's to take us along with this rather prigish young man into early adulthood at such a fascinating ... Read More:
