This is a great, easy to use large scale map which would have been perfect for a road trip if it hadn't started to fall apart after just 2 days. The spiral-bound sheets are far too thin and ripped easily.

The Brits are now well familiar with Jamie Oliver's image on TV and the media generally, but it needs to be re-stated that his reputation has been built on his recipes and his cooking.

This book lists dozens of recipes, and is written in the no nonsense style you'd expect from Jamie. Whilst some instructions are a bit vague, and you find yourself adding "some" oil and "a bit of " salt, the enthusiasm in each page shines through, and the enjoyment of cooking is passed to the reader.

A great cookbook for those who like their food uncomplicated.

Not only was this book helpful when choosing where to stay - information was accurate and relevant - it was also invaluable in terms of finding ways to save money (which is a must in Venice!).
But the best feature about this book was its information on the places to visit. It saved us a fortune because we didn't need to buy guide books for any of the venues!
The book is written with fascinating tidbits of information, many of which will make you smile and laugh, so be careful not to read in church if you're not prepared to stifle your laughter.

This is THE WORST guide book in the world. Local people of Sicily seem to be the best guides for me. I spent a week in Sicily and every place I visited I would refer to this book. But all these pompous authors wrote were sarcastic and frankly insulting to Sicily. This guide completely avoids how beautiful the Aoelian Islands are, where each island is different and diverse and some with living volcanoes. The only benefit I got from this book was when I was quoting it with locals I met on my travels and at laugh how bad this book really is. Seriously, you can travel to Sicily armed with just a map and phrase book. I wished I did because this rough guide was heavy!

I took this book along with others to Tuscany - my first visit. We were staying in the middle of Chiantishire and found the book invaluable and for our limited time there, accurate. Matthew Fort's epic scooter ride up the thigh-boot of Italy is a truly delicious read. Every aspect of the fascinating and varied Italian life he encountered is amusingly reflected upon in his lightly erudite prose. I thought his acknowledgement of feeling homesick (unlike Thesiger et al) was particularly endearing and the description of his amateurish Vespa riding in Naples most entertaining.Mr Fort was the restaurant critic for The Guardian, a foodie professional, but the gusto with which he describes the various meals he was presented with en route shows a boyish enthusiast peeping through the culinary afficionado.
