Webster is scarcely known outside university departments and some enlightened secondary schools who have used him on A-level syllabuses. This is a pity...and a scandal. It means that he is vastly undervalued, if rated at all. His two main plays are great works of art and he is one of the very finest playwrights in existence. Read, and re-read.

... but still a good read. The scenes set in Florence are interesting and the hero/heroine start out well, though she fails the hold our interest. For a similar situation examining the effects of unequal marriages on both men and women read Eliot's Middlemarch instead, which really is her masterpiece.

Having all the Osprey Campaign titles and having read 153 of the as for today, I am not afraid to say that this is Osprey Campaign at its best. Why? Well, first it is clear and focused - it is easy to understand the events. Then it is well written, balanced and never boring - and it is not always easy when writing about modern war. The maps are very well made. The colour plates are honest - I am not partial to the "impressionist" style used by this illustrator, but they are not bad. The choice of other illustrations is also good. A very good title.

Having all the Osprey Campaign titles and having read 153 of the as for today, I am not afraid to say that this is Osprey Campaign at its best. Why?
