I have just a few weeks to pick up some Spanish, and have bought a CD method (Language Now), and a grammar (Complete Spanish Grammar, Nissenberg). I wanted to complete the package with a dictionary I could carry in a handbag, despite some scepticism about the usefulness of such tiny things. I have been very pleasantly surprised by this Collins version - little dictionaries have made some progress in recent years evidently. This is everything that the product description says, with much much more than just word-for-word translations, and includes elements of much larger dictionaries: words in context, warnings about false friends, and longer entries for what they call 'keywords' (palavras claves!) this book is ok, i suppose it is the only choice if u r doing the aqa
syllabus, only a few bad points, first few chapters there are practically no worked examples, at the end of each chapter there are
some summary questions with the answers at the back of the book,
sometimes i dont know how on earth did they arrive at that answer because
they dont have worked examples to help u,i had to ask teacher to explain how they got the answers.

Its only the last few units, they have some worked examples.
Also they put examination style questions, but no answers for that too,
so u dont know if you are right or wrong unless u get the teacher
to explain to u

A generally well organised primer for those planning to take French to a serious level. The book is well laid out and the explainations are for the most part very clear.

There are one or two errors in the book (for example in the list of impersonal clauses that take the subjunctive - I hasten to add that my native French speaking teacher identified these, not me), but not significant enough to devalue it. The cross referencing is a little patchy in places and some of the exercises on the dry side, but then since when was grammar supposed to be fun!

The section on verb usage is mostly excellent but the section on pronouns would benefit from expansion and clearer examples. Overall though, a very good buy.

This has been a great resource book during my training as an EFL teacher. It contains the essential information a trainee needs to know for any TESOL/TEFL course. e.g. Classroom activities, aims, classroom management, planning lessons, grammar, phonology and lexis content. An essential resource book.
