I bought this book after I read its reviews but I must say I am very disappointed. The book's pages are more like those found in children's books, big pictures at full colours and little text. The CD is not easy to follow, as it does not mentions what page is referring to. Overall, this book is very superficial and it doesn't really go anywhere regarding German grammar and pronunciation.

This dictionary is very good value for money, and fine for most purposes, but I have found its vocabulary limited when working with some very mildly technical areas. Also if you don't have a basic knowledge of Italian, it isn't a lot of help with word endings etc. - there is a list of regular and irregular verbs in the back, but this is very concise and of limited help. For example, if you know no Italian, and look up the word 'vieni' you won't find it, and you don't know that you need to look under 'venire'.
I guess most users will probably have some basic Italian, and would find this a useful and adequate, lightweight and small paperback dictionary. For anyone with no Italian and/or a need for moderately specialist or technical vocabulary, ... Read More:

Speaking from expereince, the realisation that you really don't know the pluperfect passive subjunctive (the supine of the verb plus essem etc. if you were wondering) and your going to have to possibly write or at least be aware that it exists for prose composition can be quite a surprise a week before the exam. For all those who have ever been in a sticky latin grammar situation or need help getting through an Ovid translation for homework, this book is for you. It is clear, the expamples are exactly what you need (well, at least more often than not) and it's not a daunting grammar book that uses strange words you have never seen or will ever see again. If you need a grammar book, stop looking and buy this.

This book has a lot of useful exercises to do at home between classes to practise all the new grammar that's been introduced in the different chapters. It also has a key to all the exercises so you can check them yourself.

A word of warning though. The instructions aren't always very clear, particularly not to beginners, so you might need a teacher to explain them to you. There are also no explanations so it's not always easy to see what you've done wrong and why it's wrong. Furthermore, there's a lot of typos, both in the main part of the book and in the answer section so don't always accept something as wrong, do ask your teacher if you think it's supposed to be right.
