This book was a delight to read, a delight in the same way a letter from a dear friend is. Chatty, informative, amusing and also sad at the end. Reading it was like an annual letter at Christmas time updating all a friend's news. The author's affection for the people, the place, the animals and the character of her French home come across clearly in the detail of her everyday experiences and routine domesticity. There is a warmth such that even in the face of a French storm the sun shines through and even in the death of a dear friend a joy in his life is apparent.
