. High: Confessions of an International Drug Smuggler
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Brian O'Dea
June 07, 2007
I have read a lot of true crime/ drug smugglers book smugglers over the years and have to say that Brian O'Dea could have written this book a lot better than he has. To start he has a very irritating way of telling his story, by making shore that every over chapter being about his time in prison witch just seems to be an attempt to try to ad pages but the only thing it does is bring the book down from good to ok. However the book has its moments even if I got the feel that it was more about this cocaine problem than his marijuana deals or his international drug smuggling. I would say it's ok if you just started to read books of this kind but if you have read snow blind or loaded then you will be disappointed

. Warrior Kings: The South London Gang Wars 1976-1982
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Noel Razor Smith
March 14, 2008
In the early 50's the Teddy Boy phenomenon developed from the black marketer `spiv' of the war years and became the first true British youth sub-culture. The `Ted' whose look was based on the sartorial elegance of the Edwardian era (Teddy Edward) was subsequently replaced in the coming decades by the Mods of the 60's and the Punks in the 70's. These three primary movements all provided the starting point for myriad other variations such as Skinheads, Rude Boys, Rockers, Smoothies, Casuals, New Romantics and Goths - but none was more unlikely and offbeat than the Rockabillies.
Up until now the history books tell us that 70's teenage wasteland belonged to the Punks but the new book Warrior Kings by Noel `Razor' Smith - readdresses this ... Read More:

. The Dillinger Days
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: John Toland
March 01, 1995
In the late sixties, when the popularity of "Bonnie and Clyde" at the box office ushered in a renewed interest in the period, this book was a compelling, concise account of a period when some of history's most ruthless criminals became cult heroes. From Machine Gun Kelley and John Dillinger to the Barrows and Pretty Boy Floyd, the Depression spawned its own brand of anti-heroes, placing them forever in a crude infamy of greed and murder. Toland is an excellent storyteller of the War era and plies his trade to new levels in this book. A highly recommended read to anyone interested in the period or exploits of some of American history's criminal element.

. Escape: From the Kray Madness
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Chris Lambrianou, Robin McGibbon
July 26, 1996
Chris Lambrianou has joined the ranks of former Kray-henchmen-turned-authors with an interesting account of how he got caught up in the whirlpool of organised crime in 1960's London. His story is gripping - and will have you laughing out loud and close to tears within a few pages. Sentenced to 15 years in prison for his part in the murder of fellow villain Jack McVitie, Chris Lambrianou turned his back on the life of crime on his release from prison and has since become a born again Christian, helping people to avoid making the mistakes he did. The highlight of this book for me was when Chris told of his and Charlie Richardson's hilarious attempt at making a beef curry for a fellow-inmate - Train Robber Bruce Reynolds. This title is a must for all collectors of Kray ... Read More:
