Bookshops seem to be teeming with gangster and crime memoirs these days. If you want to try and sift through the distinctly average books then I would definitely recommend Eddie Richardson's 'The last word'. Eddie Richardson is honest and does not go out of his way to prove that he is some kind of hard man and neither does he seem to have been bothered about obtaining any 'gangster' image although neither did he shy away from it. It is not so much of a gangland book, more the story of a man who has seen the best of life and the worst of life. Certainly it does not seek to glorify criminal activities and paints a very stark picture of life in prison during the 60s and 70s. He tells stories that are sad such as the death of his brother, ... This book is brilliant and reminded me of my fav. film McVicar - the bio-pic of East End gangster John Mcvicar - in which the Cockney villian was played by rock star Roger Daltry.
Well if anything this book could even make a better film - and I would say Ray Winstone would be BRILLIANT as Vic Dark.
A fantastic book that is like a real-life version of a Martina Cole , Garry Bushell or Garry Jackson gangster novel.
The best biog I have read since discovering the writing of Jamie O` Keefe.

This book was well worth the couple of quid I paid for it. To me Joseph Massino is the most interesting character in the history of Cosa Nostra, probably because he became the first boss to flip and become a cooperator with the government, so this book to me was excellent. I have read other books about Massino. The last Godfather by Simon Crittle and Five Families by Selwyn Raab which contains a large section on Massino and the fall of the Bonnano/Massino family. However this is the best account. It can be easily read, it flows, is well researched with some previously unknown facts contained in it. The chapter which contains the details of Sal Vitales proffer sessions with the FBI were excellent. Overall great book, which is further complimented ... Read More:

I found this book an excellent read, which gave an excellent insight into big Paul's life. Once you start reading it you cannot put it down, I think it is well written and it illustrates what an excellent job the FBI did when they placed the bug in big Paul's mansion.

I found this book an excellent read, which gave an excellent insight into big Paul's life. Once you start reading it you cannot put it down, I think it is well written and it illustrates what an excellent job the FBI did when they placed the bug in big Paul's mansion.
