. Angels of Death: Inside the Bikers' Global Crime Empire
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: William Marsden, Julian Sher
May 08, 2006
A good read, very informative, if a little sensationalised.
I dont know about bias as the other reviewer comments, but if you like the many hooligan style books out there, then you might find this different angle of interest.
It's mostly focused on the USA but England, Australia, Holland & Norway are also heavily featured.
Obviously very painstakingly researched and I remember a BBC2 documentary, from around 2004, on Outlaw Biker Gangs that is very closely related to this.
Recommended if you enjoyed the Mad Max/Stone Cold style of movies and are interested in the factual side of all this - It's fairly gruesome at times so be warned!
These are the LAST people you would ever want to cross.

. Doing the Business
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Colin Fry, Charles Kray
November 06, 2000
If you have read the krays the final countdown by the same author then do yourself a favor and dont bother reading this book.
Its basicaly the same book going over the same ground i was rather disapointed that their wasnt anything new.
It was basicaly the same book renamed and re packaged.
Im giving it 4 stars as if you have not read the final countdown then its a very good book but being an avid reader of all things about the twins and their family i brought it and read it in a couple of days.
Fans of the krays all just people that have an interest in the family will agree that you do tend to see read the same stuff and stories about the twins over and over again but you hope to see something different or read a different take ... Read More:

. Born Fi' Dead

I read this book while I was on holiday not the best thing to do as it is very political so not an easy going beach book... Although saying that I feel that this book gave me an insight into the government and the drug gangs that have given Jamaica a bad name.... A good read for anyone intrested in the background of Jamaica

. Martin Cahill - My Father
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Frances Cahill
September 25, 2007
A truely intriguing insight in to the family life of Martin Cahill. The Irish media has of course been quick to condemn this book along with the Gardai. But from my own experiences with the Gardai I can deeply empathise with the struggles, that the innocent kids in the Cahill family, had to put up with from the Gardai. Its shocking to think they got away with their abusive behaviour and I have nothing but praise and admiration for Frances Cahill's accurate accounts of this.
The best book I have read in a very long time and one which will remain on my bookshelf for a long, long time.
I can't help but smile at the thought that like her Father, Frances too, will now know that she has 'one-up' on them.

. Diamond Geezers
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Kate Kray, David Bailey
October 31, 2002
There's a lot of very artistic black and white photographs of some very big men, some of whom I know from reputation to be very, very hard.
However, because most of the interesting details about these men are about illegal activity, they are less than forthcoming about their lives, so the interviews don't really add anything to the photography.
Of all of the men featured, Roy Shaw was the most surprising, showing he has a sense of humour and a sense of humanity you would never have realised from hearing about him in, for example, Lenny "The Guv'nor" MacLean's autobiography.
Other than that, it isn't really worth more than a flick through in the bookshop.

. The Last Word: My Life as a Gangland Boss
City Travel Guides > Books > Mafia and Organised Crime
by: Eddie Richardson
October 24, 2005
Bookshops seem to be teeming with gangster and crime memoirs these days. If you want to try and sift through the distinctly average books then I would definitely recommend Eddie Richardson's 'The last word'. Eddie Richardson is honest and does not go out of his way to prove that he is some kind of hard man and neither does he seem to have been bothered about obtaining any 'gangster' image although neither did he shy away from it. It is not so much of a gangland book, more the story of a man who has seen the best of life and the worst of life. Certainly it does not seek to glorify criminal activities and paints a very stark picture of life in prison during the 60s and 70s. He tells stories that are sad such as the death of his brother, Alan, at a very young age ... Read More:
