Bought this book after reading a review in the paper, I have read many true crime stories and this is without doubt :- a fascinating life story from the moment I picked this book up I could not put it down a most unusual gagster story that combines violence and humour with a romantic twist, buy it and you will not be dissapointed 9/10

Blow was a great film, the book is as good. dont think that if you have seen the film, its not worth getting the book. the book gives a different view on the same story. i really enjoyed it

Like other readers, the style of writing takes some getting used to and can be a little long winded in parts especially the last chapters about each country which I skim read. However, if you want to read one book that tells you all you want to know about coke, then this is it. Definitive.

While the authors claim that few fully "criminal" states exist, they do detect a tendency in this direction, which they link to the privatisation of economic and state functions and the rise of global flows. This is a readable book which goes into some detail about things not covered in the original work. It also shows just what courage and dedicaiton Joe Pistone had in working undercover in describing some events he did not include in the original work. The book goes on to give an insiders account of the trials he was a witness for (and plenty for which he was not) and discusses some of the tactices the FBI used to ensure convictions. It also covers what became of him in his career after he was revealed to be an agent (and the FBI does not smell of roses here). In all an interesting read, though at times it is a little difficult to follow as he writes extensivly about every major mafia trial from the early 1980's onwards and sometimes it is difficult to follow who ... This is the best book of its kind that I've read. Joey graphically describes how he came to be in the mob and what he did when he got there.
There are chapters on the murders he carried out as well as the other activities from which he earned money such as gambling, bootlegging, loansharking and pornography (including a description of how he went about making a porno film).
This is essential reading and is distinquished from other books of the same type by a wry sense of humour and a high standard of writing. It would make a great film. Thoroughly recommended.
