I had a difficult time finding this book - so hats off to Amazon (once again).

When I watched 'Goodfellas', I was just as taken by the food as by the plot - right down to the final scenes where HH is frantically preparing his family a meal, while being followed around by the police, in a completely paranoid state. I was really glad when HH came out of hiding (he's still in a witness protection programme) to write this book.

Many of the recipes in here are painstakingly detailed - I spent a whole afternoon preparing meatballs in tomato sauce. Worth every second though. All the recipes are delicious, and taste all the better for all the hard work.

Disappointing given the previous reviews. More a history of Turkish Cooking with a few receipes, and not a picture of the finished product between them. The history is fascinating, and the recipes are interesting, but apart from some kebabs, I couldn't find any receipes for the food I'd enjoyed on a recent holiday in Turkey. Like I said - disappointing. Still looking for a good, illustrated Turkish cookbook.

I really like Ursula Ferrigno's style of cooking, and was really looking forward to this book after reading 'Truly Italian'. The recipes in this book look great, but there are a couple of typos (which are annoying but not that big a deal) and missing steps in some recipes (I've noticed two recipes so far where there are clearly some instructions missing). It should be said that you'll probably be able to overcome any mistakes and produce great food just as the recipe intended by using your intuition, but its disappointing that the book went into production in what feels like a half proof-read state.

My Mother bought this book about 20 years ago via the ex-pat magazine Lookout and it's been used so many times they have had to purchase a new copy. I still have the original (with foodstains included!) and according to my Father who is Spanish and was a Food and Beverage Manager for a Major International Hotel-Chain for over 20 years, this book is the best book he has ever found on the subject.

Janet Mendel has collected these recipes by travelling into the villages of Spain and asking the local women to show her what is what and how to cook it.

If you love Spanish cooking this book is indispensable. Alternatively, 1080 Recipes by Simone Ortega is also good but not as simple as this book.

A good friend from Glasgow Fiona bought me this book in 2007 for Christmas. I've cooked about five different receipes several times and on every occasion they have been well appreciated. If you like the glamour of Sophia Loren combined with great cooking you will love this book. In fact I am buying another copy for a dear friend called Sophie who lives in Dinard in France.
