The green Michelin guides are a classic reference, but I'm not an unconditional fan. This guide is more than 200-pages long and covers everything you might need to make your visit a success. The coverage looks well planned for those driving around and visiting different places. I must admit I've only used the guide for a small part to the East of Marseille and the odd visit to Aix, Avignon and les Baux, but it was fine for what I was looking for. I would mention that if you plan a visit to a very specific place then it might be better to look for a guide targeted to your exact needs. Having said that I plan to use the guide when visiting Nimes and Arles.

I have researched carefully motoring atlases for Spain and Portugal and have found this Michelin 2008 to be the best available. This map book is approximately A4 size and is only 8mm thick,just right for easy handling and storage in the car. To achieve this,there are no fold over pages or tourist guides or places of interest pages.If you require only a road map,then this is it.
It is unfortunate that Amazon do not indicate the scale on this or any other of their road atlases.In this case it turned out to be 1:400 or 1cm=4km. I required a scale of 1:200 or 1cm=2km,however this is not available in road atlas format anywhere.
It is a mystery to me why the previous edition,February 2007 is selling on Amazon from £34 up to £120 "new ... Read More:

Ok, not entirely suited to the Normandy Beaches tourist but still a useful book I found. The bits that concerned the WW2 sites were informative and maps easy to find/follow. This coupled with a road map and some history books really made the "Discover the history of the Landings" trip for me. Small enough to carry on my motorbike tank bag and also interesting enough to read @ night it was a good last minute buy. An added bonus was the fact that the Channel Islands are featured in this guide too, somewhere else I am planning to see for the WW2 aspect soon.

This was the first Michelin Guides I've ever bought - never again! How weird to lay it out in alphabetical order. Yes, you can find the places easily from the map in the book but it's difficult to find the place on the map from the text. You can't orientate yourself to see what is in the locality of any given place because of the alphabetical layout. I'm used to the Lonely Planet, Rough Guide and other guidebook layouts where the entries makes topographical sense and you get a sense of location.

A real key to France. It kicks Lonely Planet into the weeds.

Having used and contributed to the Good Food Guide for many years,I thought i would give this a try.
Well it is not just a food guide but has a very handy slip out map,it also covers hotels in most price brackets.
the restaurants are top quality but it includes a lot at reasonable prices.
The reviews are succinct and very accurate,you feel they are a betterassessment than the Good Food guide.Top me it has entirely supplanted the Good Food Guide.
It is a handy size fits into and slips out of the pocket easily and is the most amazing value.Maybe its size is why i lost it,possibly in Galvins.
My only quibble is that it does not include opening hours,so if you are looking to eat early or late you need ... Read More:
