.Ordnance Survey Gazetteer of Great Britain (Gazetteer) City Travel Guides > Books > Ordnance Survey by: Ordnance Survey February 24, 1999 As far as I know there are only two really good gazeteers of British place names in print at the moment and this is definitely the most complete of the two. A staggeringly complete volume, it lists every place name that exists on the 1:50 000 series Ordnance Survey maps of Britain and gives you its location (four-figure grid reference and lat/long) and the map on which it can be found. If you're looking for something obscure like a particular village, country house or farm, this is the book to get. It really is an absolute must for anyone doing research such as genealogy or history. The only reason I don't give it top marks is the price - I would prefer to have bought it on CD as the book itself is quite big and heavy and ...
