I have bought a number of camera manuals over the years from Lantern guides to Hove foto books, and they have all really done little more than re-hash the camera manual. The Digital Field guide starts with the manual and simplifies it and pulls out lots of useful customisation settings on the D80. It very quickly helps you around all the key featrures of the camera, then digs deeper into some key areas of operation. It is clearly and logiclly written and with lots of clean illustrations. If you are looking for a comprehensive Spanish English dictionary then this is the one to go for. Its a weighty tome, so definitely not one for the schoolbag, but it really has got everything.

If you want to test a dictionary just try looking up some idioms, some new phrases, and some swearwords. This one passes on all three. It explains words so well that I've found myself spending half an hour just reading its notes on Spanish words.

Its miles better than the Oxford Dictionary, which is really only any good for American English.

Sorry to disagree with some of the reviewers on here but I would like to disagree and rename the book 'The Dangerous Book for Dads!'

Don't get me wrong - it IS a great book - but not for boys!

I think it is Dads and Grandads who love it most.

We bought it on impulse because WE liked it! Our son looked at and took a polite interest in the activities but didn't choose to refer to it again.

A lovely book, but not for boys to actually read?

Having lasted me more than half my life, seen me through High School, two university degrees, authorship of two books and hundreds of thousands of words of journalism, my crumbling copy of the Oxford English Dictionary was looking rather jaded, not to mention out-of-date. Collins Concise Dictionary is a more than decent update. I like the clarity that comes from reading from clear white pages, the words listed in blue print; I like the Encylopaedic entries (look up any town or city and it will give you basic details; ditto contemporary and historical figures). One thing it could have expanded upon was word origins - but that is a minor quibble that can be attributed to its size more than any editorial omission. What more can I say? As explained in the other reviews you get a two CD set and an A5 booklet with this pack.

It's all been nicely put together for the beginner (this is definitely aimed at the phrase book/ tourist market) and the stand alone CD is a good idea.
However the main problem with this is the inclusion of Tony Buzan's mind maps - I just can't see that they are helpful in learning a language.

It's also quite annoying that he lays claim to teaching techniques that really wouldn't surprise Plato or Socrates! If you can get past Buzan's self advertising this is a very well put together set and will put you well on the way to learning enough to get you by on a business trip or holiday.

While other traditions are undermined and cheapened all around us, Wisden never lets us down. My wife thinks I'm a sad git reading a thousand pages of cricket scorecards, but I don't care. You can lose yourself in Wisden for hours on end, from excellent leading articles, through endless stats and records, through obscure cards and obituaries to quirky little reports of cricket related oddities from around the world.

Never afraid to say it as it is, Wisden's journalistic standards remain very high and it is an annual joy to see the familiar yellow jacket arrive in the spring.

Pure heaven.

This has been a great resource book during my training as an EFL teacher. It contains the essential information a trainee needs to know for any TESOL/TEFL course. e.g. Classroom activities, aims, classroom management, planning lessons, grammar, phonology and lexis content. An essential resource book.

Can't recommend this enough, if you can learn the verbs you can master the language. Easy to find verbs in all the tenses, handy little tips and explanations. Wish I'd had this when I did my GCSE, would have made studying easier. It comes with a CD that has drills and tests. If you are learning the language, this is a good start.
