I agree with the other reviewer - I too had access to a few different guides on my recent trip to Rome and wasn't even sure if I would take the Blue Guide as it looked a little uninpiring with just tons and tons of text - I admit to liking a book with a few nice pictures and easy to use lists of things to see etc. However, this ended up being the book I used most. Rome is such a fascinating place with so much history and meaning and frankly, the other books were pretty useless apart from giving you something to flick through and see what you may be interested in doing (apart from the Eyewitness guide which gives a map of the Sistine Chapel roof- clearly explaining each of the pictures - well worth having). This notebook is great for:
- on-the-spot travel writing
- collecting mementos: it has a pocket in the back for ticket stubs, etc.
- remembering where you went: it has a map of the entire of Rome with tracing paper to put on top so you can remember the exact route you took
- writing EVERYTHING down: it literally has space for everything!
I bought this when I was in Rome with a school trip, and I don't regret buying it at all!

They say don't judge a book by its cover, this book at first appears an excellent resource, but in practice is sadly lacking. The maps are inaccurate as is much of the information provided about sights within Rome. This does not live up to the standard I have come to expect from a Lonely Planet Guide.
