Firstly let me start by saying I love rough guides, much better than the rest in my opinion. I have bought dozens of them and they are of a consistently high standard.

This version was a real let down, this is the second visit to ibiza, I have the mini rough guide for ibiza (published I think in 2003) which I took for my last trip and I thought I'd buy an updated one as this is newly released. This is essentially a cut down version of the other one, the majority of the book is a direct lift from the ond one with no update. You'd be far better buying the other rought guide ibiza book than this 'directions' edition.

It's good to see the Rough Guide team updating their Ireland guide less than two years after the last edition.

The Rough Guide to Ireland got the basics right a long time ago. This has always been an in depth guide that gave the traveller the background to the country and gave detailed enough guided tours round the main sites to make buying extra little guides of them unnecessary. It has slowly improved its format from Edition to Edition. The layout is clear and easy on the eye. There are a good number of maps of main towns and sites with the information you need on them. The book is thoroughly web friendly with internet addresses for everything.

I believe the title is far more revealing than one might imagine. On the whole, I would highly recommend this book as a foundation or starting place for a trip to Mexico; though inevitably for a general guide, bredth of information surpasses depth.

The book is broken down into rather helpful zones or regions of the country, making the act of planning far more convenient. Each zone is subcategorised into cities and towns (most with a street map of the town centre). This precedes a broad description of the history and points of interest in the town, then a list of some of the better eateries, hotels, transport links, and nightlife. I took this book along with others to Tuscany - my first visit. We were staying in the middle of Chiantishire and found the book invaluable and for our limited time there, accurate. There are detailed descriptions of Florence and Siena but also some helpful guidance on the Tuscany villages. Useful because the villages take time to get to and we needed to prioritise. Very accurate about the restaurants and trattorias we used.

Helpful pointers to the quieter bars and restaurants
(as well as the obvious ones that you can't miss)
