The first page in this book caught my attention immediately. It's written in a manner that takes you straight into the officers heads, and it's hard not to feel the stress, panic and excitement that they feel no matter what side of the thought track you lie on. If you're looking for an over-the-top cops and robbers shoot-em-up don't get this book. However if you want an insight into the realities of how undercover work happens then you have to get this. I loved the fact that some of the roads and locations in London are ones that I know or have heard of, and this is what makes it real.

This was the first of the Icelandic saga's that I read. Any misconceptions about them being overly scholarly or dull were completely removed within a few pages. I found the text surprisingly 'alive' and was gripped throughout. Tales of mythology, murder, intrigue with a flowing narrative and writing style, all based around the isles of Orkney. Without a doubt one of my very favourite books and one that has lead me into many other superb sagas. Particularly of interest if you've any connection to Orkney, Shetland or Northern Scotland, as the book gives in depth details of dates, names and place names throughout.

I have just finished reading Monica McCarty's debut novel: Highlander Untamed, but I sure will read the other 2 books of the trilogy!

The story is gripping and keeps you interested, her characters seem real, not just some shallowly painted 2D, made up characters, but actual persons. Monica McCarty has put great effort into giving them depth and substance, and she has succeeded! Her characters won't leave you indifferent, either you will love them fiercely (Isabel is such a loveable and sweet charcter, but she still has a backbone, Rory the hero is wonderfully handsome and oh so noble) or you will shrink from them from disgust (as from the MacDonald of Sleat or the Mackenzies). I bought this book when it was first published and still refer to it. It is a nearly ideal one volume history of Scotland and a great stepping stone to more in depth study. I cannot recommend it too highly
