really poor book. Uninteresting stories. A couple of good tips but he seems to have spent more time writing fake reviews than he did writing the book itself.

This book achieves the impossible. It makes the difficult and obtuse polemical and theoretical debates of recent history easy to read. Yes, believe it or not! I cannot find enough congratulations to give for this excellent and learned book. The achievement of the age. This is an excellent book which helps give insight onto many subjects which really help understand how we work as people, it's highly reccomended reading which will make you look at the world around you in a completely different way.

The reason why it doesn't get the fifth star is because not all sociology related subjects are covered (not much of a problem as I can only think of two at the moment and when the book does give information on the subject it's really interesting and will keep you hooked)The next problem is that this book's language can be quite complex (but that's not much of a problem as a dictionary is easily accesible).

RED HERRINGS was my favourite book of last year and now (just as my friends were breathing a sigh of relief that I had stopped dragging every conversation round to the weird and wonderful origins of the words we use every day) here comes the sequel and it's even better. Did you know, for instance, that 'buttering someone up' comes from the ancient Hindu custom of throwing globs of clarified butter at the statues of gods; that 'nailing your colours to the mast' came from captains, thinking that they were unlikely to win a sea battle, nailing their flag to the mast so their more cowardly crew couldn't winch it down and surrender; that saying something has 'got legs' comes from wine tasting -- and there's hundreds more stories where those came from... The latest edition of this best-selling textbook has undergone considerable revision. The previous edition I borrowed from the library differed from this one in both appearance and content, but on inspection I find the later one much better. It is not a cheap purchase, but for anyone serious about research in education, sociology or any of the humanities it is a must-have volume and an invaluable source of references for academic papers, theses or even coursework essays and assignments for students.

The book's all theory - you need one of his $2,950 courses to make it work, or get a book on it, as he tells you to do on page 77. So what's the point of buying this book? The first 67 pages are his definitions and his hugely time wasting theory. There's loads of repetiton.

The book lacks `canned material' - whole examples of everything you might say and do from start to finish. If there was just one chapter on it, the book would justify itself. But that would be the only chapter you would need to learn, and its missing.

I've finished it, re-read it and summarised the useful bits: I only got one and three quarter pages of useful info. It has not equipped me to even begin the first "opener."

I loved this book and many of my clients do too. This is a sweet story about Toad on the road to recovery from 'depression'. This book should be a companion to anyone that is having counselling or psychotherapy using Transactional Analysis. Highly recommended.

I think this is the most accurate book on English culture that I have read for a while. The main draw-back is the small dense font and academic style of the book. For non-natives I think this book would be too daunting to tackle.
