I first got a Rubik's cube when they came out in the early 80's and absolutely loved it. I used the first one so much that I had to buy a replacement within a couple of years. The action for these cubes was fantastic. 'Clicky' 'tight' but so easy and smooth to turn. Even though I could eventually solve the puzzle in a couple of minutes, I've never tired of it.

I was really pleased when they started to produce the cube again and was keen to buy a new one. I bought a new cube and was dismayed to find that the action and build quality was terrible. I actually dug out my remaining original cube to try and see what the difference could be and saw that the original design had little areas where the inner surfaces had open pockets or gaps. ... Even though it was valuable for me to learn what is really going on, I read this book with a mixture of revulsion and horror. I was certainly shocked to learn about the tripartite economic recipe - privatisation, deregulation, and cutbacks in social welfare spending - repeatedly used around the world by a so-called democracy via highly non-democratic means.

Dawkins is excellent while he sticks to biology
however he may have lost the plot in the last chapter
as he has in thinking promoting science involves attacking
religion
If an evangalist is someone who does not leave people to work
it out for themselves but pushes his point of view Dawkins is one
Nutty Baptists and Dawkins looked similar on channel 4 for example
ie they both spin world events too far to promote a point of view

Coming from Guernsey, and having family who lived through the Occupation, I thought that this book might give me a different perspective on what life was like after the Occupation had ended, a period that is often overlooked even here on the island. Styled as a series of letters between a London-based author, her friends and a group of Guernsey book aficionados, I was afraid that I might find it hard to engage with any of the characters emotionally as in my experience first-person letters can't convey the same sense of emotion that can be gained by well-worded, third-person prose. The Smartest Giant in Town
My 3 year old son loves this story, he will request it again and again and it always holds his attention and he will listen intently. I have noticed he will attempt to read the story to himself assisted by the colourful images.
For those who liked the Gruffalo this is another fantastic childrens story by Julia Donaldson and is well worth having in your child's collection; From an adult prespective its also enjoyable to read.
