You know what to expect when you start reading a Chris Ryan novel. The formula has been well established by now and the author has become, over time, extremely proficient at his work. Readers familiar with Mr Ryan's style will naturally expect certain elements to be present in the work - the trademark action sequences and procedural details, for example - but many reviews of the authors' last few novels seem to suggest that, in doing so, the work has lost some of the immediacy that Mr Ryan's earlier novels undoubtedly possessed. An unfair assessment, to say the very least!

I am not a gardener, I have never watched gardeners world and have only a small back yard. i somehow came across this book while browsing amazon and thought it would be a nice stocking filler for my husband. anyhow, it is so easy to follow and inspiring that we now have green beans, leeks, onions and shallots growing in our little garden. The difference in taste from supermarket veg is unbelievable. This is a great book that takes you from buying seeds to taking vegetables out of the ground, if i can do it, anyone can! Next season we are moving on to courgettes, potatoes, broccoli........

I found this rather an intriguing and absorbing book. Notes From An Exhibition centres around Rachel Kelly, an artist with Bipolar disorder. The story and family secrets unfold as you read each chapter. At first I must admit I didn't know If I would like this book as the chapters jump backwards and forwards through the decades but I actually found it quite easy to read (reading The Time Traveler's Wife helped I think!) I was enveloped by Rachel and her passion for art and I loved the notes about her paintings all the way through and how they linked in to chapters throughout the book. I was engaged by the other characters in the book and would liked to have known more about Petroc who's character didn't appear to be as fully fledged as Hedley or Morwenna's. ... Read More:

I've been a wedding photographer for 25 years. I thought this was going to be another "how to take photos book". I've liked other Scott Kelby books so whilst in a bookstore picked it up just for a quick glance, but was suprised to see how much detail he went into. Each page being a new subject, it gave a detailed taster of each subject without all the waffle many books have, and then gave links to websites where you could read more or get equipement that is hard to find. To me it was worth it just for those hard to find links.

Well, it's been less than a year since I started cooking properly (last time before then was cookery lessons at high school, which was about 8 years ago) & I have done many things since then, but one area I hadn't done as much as others was baking.

So I got this & have been very pleased with the results so far. There are some good cookie recipes in here, namely the smarties & choc orange cookies which have both worked out very nicely (shame though that the mixture doesn't seem to really work with cookie cutters) but there are other ideas that I'll be trying out.

In this lovely, useful book, Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein examine choices, biases and the limits of human reasoning from a variety of perspectives. They often amuse by disclosing how they have fallen victim to the limitations of thought that they are describing. This is one of the recommended texts for the certificate in counselling skills, which I am taking. It is very easy to read, and has some great examples, as well as bringing up some challenging issues for would be counsellors to help them to determine whether counselling would be for them. Perhaps some of the examples are a little extreme, but it does provide wonderful food for thought. Structurally, it follows and describes the person-centred approach one step at a time, and is therefore a good textbook for a course. If you are thinking about person centred counselling as a training or career option, this would be a good way to introduce yourself to the topic.

I found this book really useful for filling all the gaps on my PGCE year. It dips into education theory in more depth than our lectures did, but is not so pretentious or jargon-filled that I struggled with it. I also found the accompanying Readings for Reflective Teaching useful- especially as resource for essays or for trying to get your head around Vygotsky or Piaget in their own words.
