I just love this set of '25 Ultimate Experiences' books from the Rough Guides. They are so inspiring and beautifully designed (I love the gorgeous photography and the handy fold out map and useful information pages). The 'Journeys' book makes me want to run off and pack my suitcase straight away. It features 25 journeys via train/cycle/boat/foot. Some of them are not trips I am ever likely to take (motorcycling across the Sahara for instance) , but most of the trips are much more do-able. There is also an interesting section at the back listing the top five literary, historical and classical journeys.

A book full of useful insights about bringing up children when living overseas. Boundaries and discipline form part of the explanations, as well as sympathy and tips about how to deal with issues when they occur.
I would recommend this to any expat parent who's nervous about not "spoiling" their loved ones to make up for living outside their "expected" environment. The section on repatriation is accurate and helpful, as I recently found out!

Just completed the End to End ride and we took this guide with us....but soon abandoned it.
Lots of interesting background material, historical, topographical etc and some nice quotations and jokes, but the hand-drawn maps are hopeless and we wasted a lot of time in the first few days, getting lost.
Phil Horsley is paranoid about busy roads, but if you want to cover a bit of ground and not spend 6 months on the trip, you really need to take some 'A' roads...even the odd dual carriageway. For example, his dire warnings about the A6 from Kendal were entirely unjustified; there was less traffic than a 'B'road.

Dark Moon:Apollo and the Whistle-Blowers sets it's self out to be a serious book that says the Apollo Lunar Modules did not land on the moon. However, this book is full of so many mistakes, down right wrong it is not hard to find this book funny.

If you know anything about Apollo and want a good comic book then this is for you!

The book is very much how the author did it, that his way is best and that there is no sea room for anybody else. As I do not have a small cruiser and have never sailed on the Thames estuary this can be very annoying (a better map would help explain where Shoal Waters has been and how it had got there). The author did grow on me as the book progressed but the start was slow.

However with years of experience he has imparted hundred of handy tips some of which I know I will try and routes that I suspect have not been sailed in years!

I would recommend this to a friend but only if they will be sailing these waters and with a small boat.

This atlas is a pure delight. Just a look through its pages would make you feel relaxed and motivated to try, explore and open up to the world. The strongest part in the book is its breathtaking colourful photography - you would almost certainly feel a chill down your spine, forgetting about any troubles you might have. A combination of beautiful oriental fabrics and crafted wooden statues, blue sky, glowing atmospheric lighting, crispy white bed linen and shimmering patterns all create an aura of peace and show the world in its colour and versatility.
