There's nothing wrong with this as such, it's just that there's so much missing. The maps are not great - the text talks of various areas of the city (Navigli, Brera etc) but nowhere is a map with the names of the districts on them - you need to work out where they are from the text. A simple guide map would make things easier (eg the rough guide to Paris has a small map with the relevant arrondissement shaded on each page so you can easily see which part of town it's referring to)

The language section is disappointing - if I'm going to Italy I want an extensive food and drink glossay, and I also want the basics of Italian. I'm there for 48 hours - I don't want to have to buy a separate phrase book.

I used this guide to find my way around Turin for 3 weeks. I had an excellent time visiting its suggested wine bars, sights, sounds and museums. The guide writers had a cosmopolitan taste and certainly explored many aspects of the city - and it's really up-to-date. I would definitely recommend this guide to anyone visiting Turin (Torino). The only improvement I could suggest would be that the city map in the back could use some numbered points of interest to help you find key landmarks, but most hotels can provide you with a free Turin map with numbered landmarks so it's not a problem.

I bought this book on recommendation prior to a long weekend visit to Amsterdam. The layout of the book has been split into pre-formed Itinaries, one of which concentrates on a boat route around the canals despite informing you that you can't actually hire a boat! It then splits Amsterdam into areas and concentrates on each starting with a map of the area and colour coded numbers which relate to a description on the subsequent pages. This was the only feature of the book that I liked.

The Index was un-useable and badly structured. The pull out maps were too high level and pointless, a 2 euro map from the Tourist Info office was essential (and I would highly recommend both their map and also their advice). No canal trips were recommended ... Read More:

I had always thought that Las Vegas was there purely for you to spend all your money but for you to have a really good time whilst doing so. And partly that's true, but after reading this guide I found out just how much there is to do there, and only a fraction of it is in the Casinos.

The guide itself is split into the different areas in Las Vegas (south strip, west strip etc.) and then split again into six further sections, most relevant being hotels, shopping, nightlife and entertainment, and arts and leisure.

There is a full list and information on all Casinos/Hotels that encapsulate the whole of Las Vegas, but there is an array of entertainment that is highlighted in this guide, from rollercoasters to magic shows, musical productions ... Read More:

I bought the first edition ever of this guide in 2005 and I was very disappointed with it. I only flicked through the pages of the 2006 edition in a bookstore to check quickly if anything had changed substantially with it... it didn't give me that impression, so I did not buy it,

So what is the problem with it... well... it doesn't quite exactly do what it says on the tin! It's not really a gay guide to London... unless gay means "shopping" to you. The paradox here is that actually the general non-specific annual guide Time Out London has a Gay & Lesbian section that is more relevant and more informative than anything found on this book supposedly specialized in Gay London.

I always liked the Time Out guides and bought this one for the historical background and easy to use format. The section on history was very interesting and well-written, and some of the little information boxes were very useful.

On the other stuff though, the quality of information was mixed to say the least. The maps were OK but there could have been a lot more and they could have been clearer.

The nightlife guide was next to useless. Some good bars were highlighted but on the whole the list was small and didn't communicate the best areas to head to, and at what times. I'd rather have been given a guide of where to go, when, and what sort of atmosphere to expect instead a small list of unusual bars and clubs, some of which were totally dead when ... Read More:

Having spent a day in Florence with my mother using Lonely Planet and my dad using Rick Steeves - it was a nightmare! Restaurant recommendations were touristy or rubbish and it was hard to get around. I went and bought Time Out Florence from a bookshop near our hotel because of previous good experiences with Time Out Rome. The recommendations were spot on, and were equally good for a side trip to Pisa (botanical gardens were lovely and the chocolate shop and gelateria recommended on the river were fantastic). I highly recommend this book and encourage you to try as many recommended gelateria as possible - the three we tried were amazing.
