The book gives a good history of Chicago, good bar, restaurant and hotel listings, and review of some interesting sites, but at the expense of a decent review of the major sites. I was interested to read about, say, Wrigley Field, Frank Lloyd Wright, Hugh Hefner and their relationships with Chicago, but when I got to the Art Institute, ostensibly probably the No.1 place to visit, I would have liked a history of the Institute, a floorplan or better still a description of the major unmissable pieces. The same goes for the other museums and Lloyd Wright sites. I would have liked some more help on how to get to the outlying sites by public transport and foot, which I was nervous to do as a lone female traveller, and some more detail in the walking ... While I have been an happy timeout guide customer in the past, I was extremely disappointed by this guide, and sometime amazed by its errors.

The most amazing one is about the bridge: Vasco da Gama is located in
East Lisbon, while this guide described it in details and with a
wrong picture in Belem (West Lisbon). The picture is on page 85 and
this is NOT Vasco da Gama bridge!!

Among the other wrong information:

- misplaced tube stations which left me wondering for tens of minutes
(I was luckily rescued by a local map I got there)
- the highly advised tram 28 is instead 28E (28 is a bus that travels
a completely different route!)

This is an excellent book if you need a guide to Brussels, but the reference to Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges in the title is rather misleading. All three places are in a section of the book called "Trips out of town", and are not covered in any great detail. The first 200-ish pages of the book cover Brussells, but the section on Antwerp covers 20 pages, while Bruges and Ghent get only 13 pages each.

If it is Bruges you are looking to visit, then you would probably be wise to look for a different guidebook.

This is an excellent guide, with information for all kinds of travellers - from the party animals, to the more subdued culture-seekers. It covers literally every aspect of travel, from restaurants to lodging to traditions and culture. It gives an honest view of what you should expect to find, with very helpful information on other parts of Eire too, mainly the large cities. It doesn't read like other guides - it's not a chore to look up information. In fact, the book is a pleasure to read and does not simply state facts. If you read it on the plane into Dublin, you should be more than equiped to have a great stay, while maximising your time there.

It's really worth searching around for the follow-up to this edition. The fourth edition, published in February 2007, is a significant improvement in every way. Not only is it more encouraging about the more youthful aspects of this region, it's also a lot more up-to-date, with more original and better suggestions for places to eat beyond the most obvious.

While studying in Edinburgh last year, I went to Venice for a week with a friend of mine last March. Armed with both the Lonely Planet Venice and Time Out: Venice guidebooks, we found the Time Out book to be wonderfully helpful. One of the best things about it was that it included (at least, last year's version did) a map of all the public toilets in Venice, which, let me tell you, is a very good thing. The book itself was informative, interesting, and well-written, the advice given was very sound, and, though accurate maps of Venice are notoriously hard to find, those in the Time Out guide were much more helpful than those in the Lonely Planet. I remember reading that the Lonely Planet guides were best for given areas and regions, but the Time Out guide were better ... Read More:

Good information on various restaurants & bars.
Nightclub information was very sparse as out the 3 shown;1 has now closed, & the other two were not actually night clubs, but instead chillout bars. There are however, many nightclubs in Madrid.
Factual information is very good with a superb historic introduction to the city & its Rulers.
