I can't give this book enough praise. As someone who has lived in Stockholm for 3 years but is too busy to see the sights, it was incredibly helpful to me while recently entertaining friends and family that came to visit this February. Winter in Sweden is always difficult, but this book had so many suggestions that we didn't have enough time to see everything! The sightseeing and restaurant sections are particularly good. Even my Swedish husband agrees that the restaurants chosen are actually ones that Swedes enjoy and there were also several wonderful places in the book that he had never heard of (we have tried several and have not been disappointed)! We are due to go to San Francisco for our 2nd visit in 10 years in the near future. We were disappointed with this book - not a patch on the detail that was given in the DK guide we used in 1995. Whilst it gives some good detail on the more popular locations, accomodations, places to eat etc if you want something a little out of the norm or, if your pleasure is to visit just beyond the boundaries of SF - you need to look elsewhere for guidance. We have used other Time Out guides but found this one was lacking.

The book gives a good history of Chicago, good bar, restaurant and hotel listings, and review of some interesting sites, but at the expense of a decent review of the major sites. I was interested to read about, say, Wrigley Field, Frank Lloyd Wright, Hugh Hefner and their relationships with Chicago, but when I got to the Art Institute, ostensibly probably the No.1 place to visit, I would have liked a history of the Institute, a floorplan or better still a description of the major unmissable pieces. The same goes for the other museums and Lloyd Wright sites. I would have liked some more help on how to get to the outlying sites by public transport and foot, which I was nervous to do as a lone female traveller, and some more detail in the walking ... This guide is packed full of useful information, but it is organised so badly that most of it is unaccessible. I was meaning to use it extensively to organise my four-year-olds summer break, but in the end could not find anything of use in this book that I didn't already know about.

To improve it, the authors need to
1. Be more opinionated about the entries, so I know what's good and what isn't. Currently the entries are innocuos in the extreme.
2. Write more about things with lots to do, less about things that have very little (many entries in a section are all the same length).
3. Drop the borough-by-borough organisation, it's pointless (provide it in the index instead).
4. Provide an index by age.

Full of errors, no tube map, terrible fact checking. A badly balanced presentation of different areas of Rome, at times random choice of things to cover. We threw our copy away. Seems to be well below the usually satisfactory quality of Time Out guides.

While I have been an happy timeout guide customer in the past, I was extremely disappointed by this guide, and sometime amazed by its errors.

The most amazing one is about the bridge: Vasco da Gama is located in
East Lisbon, while this guide described it in details and with a
wrong picture in Belem (West Lisbon). The picture is on page 85 and
this is NOT Vasco da Gama bridge!!

Among the other wrong information:

- misplaced tube stations which left me wondering for tens of minutes
(I was luckily rescued by a local map I got there)
- the highly advised tram 28 is instead 28E (28 is a bus that travels
a completely different route!)
