. Trekking in the Annapurna Region (Nepal Trekking Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer
by: Bryn Thomas
March 15, 1999
A few friends and myself did the Annapurna circuit this year, and can highly recommend trekking in this region.
Currently roads are being built to Manang and Muktinath. This road building has been going on for some time and is changing the path in many areas, however it is not mentioned in the guide book, it is difficult to see how a book updated in 2005 could have missed this. In some places the route changes on a yearly basis so I do not expect the guidebook to be completely up to date and in these cases the maps in the book are an excellent way of getting your bearings, but such a major development as a road, and the impacts of the road should not have been missed. The road development will change trekking in the region, when ... Read More:

. Trans-Siberian Handbook (Trailblazeer)
City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer
by: Bryn Thomas
June 01, 2003
If you are planning to take a trip on the Trans-Siberian, Trans-Mongolian or Trans-Manchurian railway, I URGE you to purchase this book! I cannot express how invaluable this book was to me during my trip.
The book contains a wealth of important information. It helps you to book your trip with suggestions of companies to go through as well as informing you of any complications that may arise such as visas, vaccinations. It has a stop-by-stop guide of the entire length of the railway for all 3 journies as well as kilometre markings and places of interest along the route outside of stops, for photo opportunities and such.
Inside of stops, for the bigger towns along the way it contains a map (very valuable) marking out places ... Read More:

. South-East Asia (Trailblazer)

We used this book recently to get aroung a number of countries in SE Asia and to be quite honest was the best guide book we used on our whole round-the-world trip. The maps are easy to understand and point out the important things you need and its not bulked out with excess info that you probably won't read anyway.
As we forgot a China guide and couldn't find one for looking once inside Yunnan this saved us no end. If only these guides were available for other parts of the world!

. West Highland Way (British Walking Guides)
City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer
by: Charlie Loram
2003-01
I've never been that fond of guide books but this one served me very well on my recent West Highland Way walk. I admit to loving Ordnance Survey maps but for the first time this guide book was all I used and needed (I carried some OS maps but they were never looked at). The route guide and maps were excellent, ensuring that I was always confident of being on the correct path. Useful information was provided on each village/town visited, including services (post offices, shops, public transport etc), where to stay (B & B, hotels, campsites) and where to eat. Plenty of useful information for planning your walk, from suggested itineraries to information concerning the weather and precautions to take. Snippets of information concerning ... Read More:

. Scottish Highlands (Hillwalking Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer
by: Jim Manthorpe
July 10, 2005
We recently went on holiday took Scotland and took this book out of the library as a guide. We tried two walks from the book. We walked in fair weather and with the appropriate maps, a compass and proper equipment. We would not call ourselves "Munro baggers" but we have walked a fair bit.
The descriptions were a bit vague and when you have poor visibility as we did one walk it was downright useless. The walks need to have a lot more detail and to be checked for typos and errors unless you want to get seriously lost.
The book has history, banter and some nice ideas in it, but do not under any circumstances rely on the book alone, get a decent scale map and compass a GPS unit, and do a google search to corroborate the route...

. South Downs Way (British Walking Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer
by: Jim Manthorpe
March 01, 2004
This book is just as applicable for people walking from Eastbourne to Winchester (I didn't myself) as the directions can easily be reversed; however I personally feel finishing in Eastbourne is much more natural climax to the whole walk.
The book itself is fantastic, it's an ideal resource for planning your trip as much as it is for actually walking the South Downs Way with its excellent, accurate and useful mapping. I did take the OS sheets and did refer to them a little for when I needed to deviate from the trail (to/from accommodation mainly) but overall I think this is one of the best travel guides I have ever bought.
A valuable and dare I say necessary companinion for this walk. It's also small, and the binding is such that it will ... Read More:
