.Trekking in the Everest Region City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer by: Jamie McGuinness October 30, 2002 Went trekking in the Everest region (from Jiri to Gokyo via Lukla and Namche, then back to Lukla) in October/November 2006. We took both this book and the Lonely Planet guide, but this was by far the more useful. It's comprehensive, an easy read, and covers everything you need. It also survives if the pages get frozen together when it's -20deg C at 5000m! .West Highland Way: Glasgow to Fort William (British Walking Guide) City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer by: Charlie Loram January 30, 2006 You could use only this book and walk the West Highland Way in confidence, as long as the weather was good. The sketch maps were that accurate. However I used the Harvey superwalker map along side this publication. For anyone contemplating this excellent walk I would not hesitate to recommend this title. It provides just about all the information you might need to help you conquer Africa's great white peak. However this book just replicates all the usual guide info like, "How to get there" and flora and fauna. But it really doesn't offer much of the trekking. Only 4 regions, one trek in each, and no maps to navigate the area or do a different trek, just daily sketches. No help at all, unless you intend to do exactly one of these 4 treks, and therefore you have no flexibility Please produce a proper set of maps!! The moroccan maps out there are terrible also. There are so many more trails out there Please Richard, concentrate on the trekking, and the maps, and we'll do the rest otherwise leave it to lonely planet Lonely Planet have a 30 page section ... .Istanbul to Cairo Overland: Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Egypt (Trailblazer Overland Guides) City Travel Guides > Books > Trailblazer by: Henry Stedman August 29, 1997 If all you wanted to get from your trip was a set series of 'experiences' crossed off your list, then this book would be ideal. It outlines the standard backpacker trail across the region and tells you what to do to be just like all the others - what hostels everyone else will be at, and what sights you have to see. It's most definitely aimed at the budget end of the market. The restaurant listings are mostly felafel stalls and the accomodation lists put the emphasis on saving every penny by sleeping somewhere unsafe with no bathroom. For a trip that most people would spend a couple of months on, this is a very thin book.
