. Are You Dave Gorman?

they were probably posted by the authors' friends. There is no other explanation for those positive ratings. This is the first book in years I've stopped reading after forcing myself through the first one hundred pages. Boring, boring, boring. Two guys overstretch a very weak story to make a book and they do so by narrating it in such a ghastly way that you start hating yourself for having fallen for the reviewers' hype. I had my doubts but I decided to believe the "readers" ratings. Believe me, there is no way in hell so many people can honestly have found this book to be funny, interesting or in any way readable. Based on this book I wish to never ever meet anyone called Dave Gorman. Ah yes, it took two to fabricate it! Gawd... What I do mind ... Read More:

. Icons of England
City Travel Guides > Books > Travel and Holiday

Thoroughly enjoyable read. I find Annie Hawes impressive in the extreme in that she really knows her subject and her reader! I loved my travels with her but sadly missed the de Giglio family and all her Italian friends. I learned an awful lot about women of Islam and how they cope with the extremes of this religion. Annie presents a book which is humourous and yet holds the dignity of the way of life and customs of the land she travels in.

. The Rough Guide to South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland (Rough Guide Travel Guides)

This is a reasonably up to date guide to the fast moving world of GPS that reveals what you can and can't do with your gps. For the UK user this will help you make some sense of settings, grid systems and the differences between waypoints, trackpoints and routes. It shows how much is available on the internet to enable you to use your gps to its maximum. The book is a very easy, non-technical read that you can dip into or read thoroughly. I bought a very good gps but, to be honest, had no idea what to do with it yet, very quickly, the author has shown me how to make more sense of the bewildering Garmin handbook. I heartily recommend this volume to anyone who wants to buy a gps or someone who would like to do more with their receiver but is not sure how to ... Read More:

. The Rough Guide Map Paris (Rough Guide Map)
City Travel Guides > Books > Travel and Holiday
by: Rough Guides
February 22, 2007
I can't believe that the best feature of this map isn't made clear in the description. It is made of polyester film, therefore it is all but indestructible. Rain, clumsy folding or stuffing into pockets/handbags will do nothing to dim the brilliance of this fine map.
A clear enough scale to read all the street names, without being too large. Also, being indestructible, it can be folded and refolded to show just the part of town you are in (or searching for!)
There are only a couple of minor gripes. Firstly, the map would be better if it extended a way further north, as only half of Montmartre is shown. Secondly, the Metro plan is too small to read easily, and covers only the city centre.
However, a pocket guide to the Metro ... Read More:
