This is a really good guidebook for walking in the Brecon Beacons, I've followed quite a lot of the routes and they have been easy to follow and greatly rewarding. The rating system works well and makes it easy to pick an appropriate walk regardless of ability, time constraints or anything else. This could be the perfect book for people who want to get to know the area a bit more by following some well thought out routes before planning their own walks, as by the time you get to the hardest walks you get experience some thrilling moments (especially the final assent up Pen Y Fan from the North ridge in walk 32!) and beautiful wild scenery. What a splendid reference book. Naturally I was thrilled to see several parish churches of mine included...

Simon Jenkins' reviews are spot on, the pictures detailed, the reviews wordy without loosing the reader or being patronising. Often when I've passed a church on a train, or am going to a particular part of the country, I check to see whether there is anything of interest, and I'm often surprised to find out the most bizarre facts!

Simon Jenkins' reviews are spot on, the pictures detailed, the reviews wordy without loosing the reader or being patronising. Waste of money. Self-indulgent, parochial, political. Rather buy something on whisky by Jim Murray or the late Michael Jackson. Any book on Scotland by anybody on earth, even if he is from Tierra del Fuego,would be better. And as for the author's friends, his youth, cars and his naive and fashionable politics- who cares and why does he think anybody else would?

This has got to be the best walking book of London that I have ever used. Being an avid walker I have found this book invaluable! My friends and I have spent many a weekend walking around London, learning about the history of this great city, thanks to this book. It is a great way to spend a day and also very cheap as walking doesn't cost a thing! I recommend that anyone living in London should buy this book; they will get so much pleasure from it! Andrew Duncan does a fantastic job of leading you around some fabulous places in London that you would probably never find on your own.
