This book is excellent. We used it for a weekend, found a great hotel, loads to do during the day with a great range of restauraunts and bars for the evenings. The best bit is the map on the inside cover, where all the recommended places are marked - so you don't spend ages working out where everything is!

There are some things in life that appeal mainly to the connoisseur: others you would have to have a heart of stone not to be touched by. Machu Picchu belongs to the latter category. It makes a huge impression on all who see it. However, while it is both possible and pleasant to wander around the ruins in a dream-like state, soaking up the atmosphere, most people would appreciate the Incas' achievements all the more if they understood more about the functions of the various buildings and the problems that had to be overcome, e.g. in supplying the city with water. We spent 4 months in Northern Spain in 2005 and took this book with us as a guide and reference book for general information. The only good thing I can say about it us that it fitted in the cubby box in the LandRover other than that we could have used it for loo roll. When you are actually on the ground, in the area travelling around and reading the book, you wonder whether the author has ever set foot there. Don't bother, just purchase the right Michelin map and go for it!! Happy travelling.

By some distance the best pocket guide we have ever used. A perfect accompaniment to our city break. Restaurant listings very very helpful for vegetarians - found some amazing places we never would have known about.
